So what's next? Real acknowledgment is the first step toward positive life transformation. But if its only blathering cynicism; prepare to get flushed because cream rises and sh*t sinks. If you want to help yourself suggest check A.A. or find a genuine mentor friend or councillor helper. And know this: You've got to turn on your own inner-radar because the real-deal never advertise or put a price tag on their helping service >>>> "In nature there are neither rewards nor punishments; there are consequences." - Robert Green Ingersoll

But I don't want to go to AA because I think my addiction to smoking cigarettes is even more harmful. and inquiry coffee too already. And I don't believe in God, so there's that too.

AA has nothing to do with your nicotine or caffeine addiction. It’s Alcoholics Anonymous. And the ‘higher power’ that everyone convinces themselves is god, is actually just your conscience / soul / inner truth. Even at NA (narcotics anonymous) they don’t tell you to quit smoking/ drinking coffee. Also they don’t tell you to do anything. They help alcoholics. They help addicts. Because for the OP to admit this, they realize there’s a problem and that they are unhappy. In realizing this, they are bordering on wanting change. And while change is scary, it’s usually for the better. Especially when it comes to addiction. This garbage about everyone’s an addict... yep, we ingest a multitude of addictive sources while staring at screens all day and live in a warped version of reality. But straight up, if you weren’t drunk / high all the time, you might start to see through your other addictions. And eventually become the version of yourself that you are proud to wake up to.
To the OP, whether you use the program, quit cold turkey or begin the long road of ups and downs to recovery, just admit to yourself that you want to change, and that you can. Because now that you have accepted your addiction as truth, you can’t go back. You can pretend to ignore that voice in your head that brought you here... to the GS confession page, but you know it’s never going to stop.
I wish you luck on your quest.

Yes yes yes ... and like the great Jimmy Cliff sang in his reggae song: "You can get it if your really want but you must try, try and try. You'll succeed at last."
