Story of my Life

The minute I dump ‘em they get their shit together. Glad I could be of service. For once it would be nice if they could just not lose the best thing they’ve got. When will you people learn? Oh and if you had to “think” about whether this person was the love of your life, they probably weren’t.

If people’s lives take a turn for the better after you’re absent from theirs, it’s sounds like services rendered. And you may not be the best thing to happen to them either. Ya think

they're able to get their shit together because they are no longer with you. You're the common denominator here...

Says you apparently. Sounds like you might need a wee dose of humility...

I failed them when I was with them, but spent years trying to right that wrong. I've accomplished more in the last 5-6 years than I did in the first 35 of my life. to counter the first two comments, no one had ever shown me love, and when I lost it, I've spent years indebted to having had it. no anger. no regret. just hard work and respect to a lost love, and the loss of helping raise a child. peace.

Sorry OP

But you come across as resentful in an arrogant way in your post and that's why people are dumping on you.

In my case, I seem to be a sort of female version of 'Good Luck Chuck'. For most of the guys I dated, the *next* woman ended up being The One and they got married.
I'm not resentful though because I've never been interested in getting married & having kids. But if the ex-b/fs found their Ms Right after me, I'm totally happy for them. =)

Hmmm

I was in a situation like this. Got laid off and scrambled around taking terrible jobs I sucked at because my partner said I would be an anchor if I didn't. When the relationship ended, I took a little time to strategize and now I'm fine. I don't blame her for my struggle but she didn't do anything to help and she sure wasn't a cheerleader.

Sounds like those people who broke up with you dodged a bullet.
