Flakes

I’m so done with friends that say they want to get together and then bail. After all this time being unable to see anyone you’d think they wouldn’t take it for granted. I won’t be making time for people that don’t stick to plans any longer. Even if I have no friends I’d rather at least be able to do things alone than wait all day for people to say they aren’t coming. What a waste of time!

I did not miss flakes bailing during the pandemic. Or flakes pretending to make plans but never following through to completion.

Conversely

Some of us who hate being caught up in plans are exhausted by the planner's expectations. My closest friends also tend to be more spontaneous, and we forgive each other for bailing, no questions asked. When it happens it happens.

I was one of them...

...and I learned the hard way. Always appreciate people that think of you and make their way to catch up, and hopefully they return when you do the same.

They'll just ignore you with their phones before during and after

Different friends wanting to do something at the sane time. Funny how juggling several events somehow works out, still there’s times when a massive flake out happens and I’m left alone on a Saturday night. Good thing I prefer my own company

I have a friend

who takes great pleasure in leaving you dangling and then sometimes bailing out on the day of. They seem to take great pleasure in shabby treatment. So I don't set myself up anymore.

But maybe …

They might not be intentionally flaky. Maybe they’re depressed. Maybe they have an anxiety disorder. Maybe they really, REALLY want to get out there, but their illness prevents them from doing so. Before you decide to dump someone, please do your best to try to find out what’s really going on in their life.

Here's a tip

Make plans with them, and then bail at the last minute. They only get it when it happens to them. And they really don't like it.
