So many nice things can be found in the West End lanes. I've found pvrs/vcrs, speakers, microwave ovens, a 50 inch flat screen once, clothes, old cel phones, etc, etc, etc.

Not only that, I donate to the food bank, and other charities like the Variety Club. I also keep some people employed doing useless renovations on my house and run a hobby restaurant that loses money. I could just say fuck it all and become an expat in the South Pacific, but I like Vancouver. Anyone need a job? I have one for you.

Trickle-down economics failed? Huh, what? Leaving their unwanted goods doesn't qualify? Just kidding. Have you heard of the Panama papers and the housing crises? That's the rich doing their thing.

If you have access to a commodious vehicle, I suggest you visit the enclave of Lion's Bay any weekend. The end of almost every driveway is a mini garage sale where everything is free. Just don't try to park anywhere though. They have almost no tax base so a significant chunk of municipal income comes from very expensive parking fines.

People, both wealthy and poor buy stuff and then lose interest or have no room or whatever. So they ditch it in the alley or thrift store or wherever. And you get it free or cheap. It’s all there if you want it and can enjoy the thrill of the find.

Hard pass on your charity virtue signaling nonsense. I'd much prefer you paid appropriate taxes (especially on all inherited wealth, which basically should not exist) so that we had the tax base needed to support universal income and truly end poverty. In this town, chances are that you aren't rich, your house is, and that should be taxed right out from under you - you didn't earn a dime of it's value increases. Otherwise, it's inheritance, and you perpetuate poverty by even letting that shit exist in the first place.
You are not the solution. Charity is never the answer to poverty, which is literally created by the same processes as wealth.
