Shut up

I have a friend that can only talk about his stupid job. Its a great job that pays more than most. He has benefits, overtime, great holidays. But its never enough! The funny thing is he considers himself the best employee, the only who really cares. Yet, many others have been promoted ahead of him. Im pretty sure that if he kept his big mouth shut, and kept his head down he would be way ahead. But some people insist on being the hero all the time.

I wonder if he’s early into career? I didn’t earn much at first, but did used to think one of my first jobs was the be all and end all of life.

With a bit of life experience, you realize it really is just there to pay bills & have something to pass the time with.

Never fails to remind us of how much weight he lost at camp. Oh and how smart how savy how tough he is. Only he conveniently forgets it was actually his brothers he hides behind who do those things. He just lost weight

Terrible friend you seem to be. What's in it for you, why so bitter and resentful if they're promoted or not? Support your friend either way, whether it's listening to them vent or letting them know how you feel authentically about what they're saying. All this coming to the anonymous internet to write a gaslighty post when you could easily talk to them is passive aggressive.

I get what you're trying to say but if anyone's immature it's most likely the op who failed to communicate appropriately with their friend. Things like benefits, overtime and holidays are bare minimum standards that any business should offer and nothing for society to look at as a Holy Grail. Yes, anyone working is thankful they have income during a pandemic but everyone should have income and be in jobs (if they're able to) they're passionate about. Jobs don't need exist purely to feed financial constructs or systems/institutions that couldn't care less about people. The definition of work as it is today isn't changing anytime soon
and, not-so-surprisingly a basic income is still not deemed necessary, so most of us will continue being miserable in jobs to stay afloat unfortunately. Societies historically and for some time to come have never done jobs correctly. More people doing the work they care about is what we need not making people feel badly for caring.

Who openly talk about being the best employee...never are. A great employee gives credit to the team.
