The Sounds Of Silence

When I hear modern songs that consist solely of a computer and one voice, I don't even hear music.

what, the 70s?
You really don't have an excuse (like "old
age"). Artificial music's been around for decades.

I think the music we hear and enjoy as teenagers not only sets our preferences for later on, it also helps us define what counts as music. If it doesn't have guitars, I can't relate. My father told me if it doesn't have clarinets, he couldn't relate. It's interesting that musical styles go in and out of fashion and so do the instruments that make those styles.

Real music is structured arrangements of intos, choruses, verses, bridges and changes. And what really further annoys me in computer robot fake music is the mosquito frequencies from that damnblasted autotune p.o.s. device

Yup, they are recorded for crappy mp3 compressed format. For suckers to buy through their crappy streaming like iTunes or Spotify. Lowest common denominator! I am a 30 something woman and can't stand it either. Don't even get me started on the stupid portable speakers that blast it out on the streets. It sounds like nails on a chalkboard to me. Give my my FLAC files. My Tidal. My vinyls.

As a techie, I try to avoid this sort of mistake in talking to lay people.
Because I see no difference between oenophiles and audiophiles - both are absolutely crashing bores once they get on their hobby subject. Except when they slag the uninitiated for their ignorance. And then they're stuck-up, delusional, odious crashing bores.
My decades of tech experience (with a year-plus of bar DJ gigs thrown in) have taught me that almost everybody doesn't care about almost everything. They want their "gadgets" to just work while they swill booze from a sippy cup and tap their feet to a catchy hook. And that's all. Hard to distinguish between boomers and (for example) Gen Z here - when it comes to this, they're almost identical.
If it all came from a water (booze) fountain with built-in speakers and a broadband link, that would suffice.

Of course, when they're suddenly forced to line up for petrol at the pump - because tech has been variosly sleeping on the job or phoning it in for 50 years now - then IT is suddenly urgently relevant. But only briefly. Just like Covid-19, they'll lose interest quickly and want to go back to "normal".
And not your normal. Theirs.

Music made with computers and played through adequate speakers or headphones, can be and often is sonically and auditorily basically the same as any other form of music. Any humanly audible sound -- note, chord, pitch, frequency, instrument, vibrational quality, etc -- and by extension, music, can be made with computers, so that idea of "computer-made music is bad, is not real music" is mostly baseless.

@Thank You !

Same response as above. :)
