Totally hopeless

I've spent the past year terrified of covid and horrified by the onus of accepted risk being put disproportionately upon low income mostly service industry workers while offering them no other options. No sick days, can't get support unless you're fired or laid off and a delayed implementation of mask regulations made work extremely difficult last October/November. My mental health has really suffered and it's not covered by 'universal' healthcare; if you're lucky you have coverage through work. At this point I have no friends and feel worthless. The only calls I get are scams trying to get my money. The only work available puts me at risk of getting covid so I can make money for a boss that will fire me if I don't eat shit with a smile, all the while they work in their office or at home risk free. On top of this the 'socialist' NDP give these businesses covid relief that should go to the employees that are actually struggling mentally and financially. So what's my worth? If I have no intrinsic value and am merely a productivity number for the economy then I want to opt out because I feel worthless. So, yeah BC. Drop mask mandates JUST before reaching vaccination levels at which masks should be optional. We need to go back to making money for the wealthy at the expense of the working class. Good job. The N in NDP stands for Neolib I suppose.

The NDP are Social Democratic, there is no Socialist party. The lesson learned should be, get out of the service industry, it's dead end.

You're not worthless

I'm sure that a lot of people do appreciate you - they should - but aren't showing it. This crisis has highlighted how inequitable the system is. The poor are getting poorer and the super-rich are having a field day. I read that in the UK, there are now more billionaires, and they increased their wealth by 21 percent over the last year. It's probably the same everywhere. We're basically living in a feudal society again.

I think

they are easing restrictions a bit too soon and I worry that this will only lead to a fourth wave and then further delay essential things like September school start, the boarder reopening, etc. It’s like they have to allow businesses to generate some more revenue for a couple months but wouldn’t it be better for everyone if they just waited until we actually have full vaccination numbers higher? Most people are not going to pay attention to all the gradual reopening rules, they will just start partying again and then we will have high cases again.

First, let me say thank you for your service during this horrible time.I am well aware of the risks so many people took(and continue to take) just doing their job.You are valued and appreciated.I used to work in the service industry and it's a thankless job.Of course your mental health has suffered and I truly hope you manage to find some way to deal with.If anything, the pandemic has exposed what's important above anything else: money.Yes,we are all contributors to the economy but human life is expendable and the brutal truth is governments, corporations and big business don't care about you.I lost my job of 15 years because my school exploited the pandemic by refusing to extend recall rights.I feel your pain but know this: you do have value.

Have you...

... considered that your working retail and your inability to do your own analysis of the COVID data are sort of related? There have been almost no deaths in retail workers, the vast majority of the deaths are LTC residents with pre-existing conditions. People with pre-existing conditions of the sort responsible for COVID mortality don't tend to be healthy enough to stand on their feet 8 hours a day, etc. etc.

Also, it's now mainstream to admit COVID might not be natural, beloved Dr. Fauci has admitted this, and also that he doesn't know enough about the CCP to say whether or not they have influence over scientists, so, you know, maybe your anger should be directed toward CHY-NA

...until you called our provincial party "socialist", which it isn't.
Compared to other provinces on so many areas you are in a good part of the country. The issue is you job and employers, and the work that you're in is terrible no matter where in the country you're in.
You can be sure that any other party in this province would have cut a lot more options, never raised minimum wage, would never create housing for the homeless and wouldn't have structure in place to prevent you from being evicted during this pandemic. And nobody has mental health coverage like you think.
You have access to the internet, as we see , because you are here. You can watch TikTok on your free time or you can try channeling you time and resources to lift your skills and looking for better work. There are free online courses out there. But this USA-sounding demonizing of our party (have you see the Conservatives and their provinces? OMG, seriously)... and the weird way you phrased your confession makes me wonder if it's a troll from outside our borders... is misguided. Your plight isn't the government's fault.
Find the energy to make changes in your life. The options are there.

Social Democratic, you say?

Nazi Party = NSDAP = National Socialist Democratic Arbeiter Party.

So, like, the NDP are International Socialists, so it's OK, right? =]

We're under military occupation by mentally disabled trade unionists.
