Unfazed

I can’t remember the last time I picked up a newspaper. I lost interest in reading the same old depressing and boring stories: gang and drug turf wars, cops catching and releasing the same “known to police low lives” and local politicians who’ve fallen from grace and fail miserably. None of this stuff fazes me anymore. Not in the least.

Regional news, literal dumpster fire.

Post media owns every newspaper in BC. They always spout what the neo-conservatives say. The corporate controlled lame stream media has done a disservice to Canada and the rest of BC.

That’s the problem

The fact that you’re not fazed means that you’re becoming too used to the status quo. That’s exactly what precipitates the downfall of any society. You should be fazed! This is complete anarchy going on. Open drug markets, open gang warfare with people being gunned down in broad daylight in the streets. Thousands of homeless people, and even more living in hidden poverty, just a millimetre away from being homeless. I don’t want to become so used to it that it doesn’t faze me. I can’t believe how horrible my once-beautiful and peaceful city has become in such a short period of time. It’s heartbreaking.

Headlines

The headlines are almost predictable. What's up with that except maybe some kind of marketing scam.

What city is that?

25 years ago I saw people walking over and around a guy sprawled across the sidewalk on Davie. Indifference and uncaring on a recurring regular basis can only come back to you in a baaad way

So what are you doing to improve the situation?

We live in a society where we should be outraged, but you would be spending your entire life outraged. Thanks to our political system being the way it is here, nothing ever changes. There are miles of red tape and various offices that need to approve of any kind of spending in order to make change. I think the general feeling of people becomes "well that's a shame, but what can you do..."

Also yes, all forms of media come with biases, either from the left or the right, depending on who owns the given media outlet. You can read the big newspapers and get your dose of right wing conservatism, or you can get your news online from places like Vice and get a rather severe liberal view on a topic. People read/watch whoever they agree with. Perception is reality.

That's what news is. I stopped watching and reading most news years ago. It's all negative energy! I don't care about anything you've mentioned plus more.

Isn't it?

Isn't it ironic? Don't you think? A little too ironic. Yes, I really do think.

(And those of you who can't think- The Georgia Straight is a newspaper. Online or otherwise, still counts.)
