Well, that was disappointing

I didn’t eat at restaurants much even before the pandemic, and since it began I haven’t actually gone to one at all. But I decided to give in to my craving for a specific dish that I loved from a local restaurant. It wasn’t at all enjoyable. Not only has the restaurant jacked the prices up by at least 15%, the outside seating area was packed and the service was terrible. The server got the very simple orders wrong (there was only 2 of us), and I waited far too long for her to fix it. When I finally did get my food it wasn’t good. Other patrons were behaving irresponsibly and not wearing their masks as they should have been. So now that I’ve satisfied my craving I will not be going back to what was my favourite restaurant, ever again. I’m sad.

Opposite but the same

I spent all year last year supporting locally, tipping generously and trying as many restaurants, bakeries, deli's etc, as I could. This year I am tapped out at the thought that $20 gets me a meal and that's not even being generous with tip. That I also don't get to know staff or restaurants with the social distancing etiquette loses a lot of the meaning with the connection with establishments.

It’s all changed

I hear you on the dining disappointment. Restaurants are barely breaking even and so all the prices are up. (I’m ok with that) For me it’s not a relaxing experience dining when the servers are wearing hospital-type garb like vinyl gloves, face shields and masks. They are risking themselves to serve people and I feel like a bit of jerk being there. To support local restaurants, I do takeout, but it’s generally speaking not great eating out of takeout containers. To make it more elegant, I transfer everything to proper plates because it improves the overall sensory appearance. Still, it’s not the same. There is really only one place that does take out well that I visit. I long for the days where the buzz inside a restaurant is lively energy, where the host comes by to chat and linger, where I can people watch and enjoy the company I came with and see their whole uncovered smiling faces. For now, it’s just me and my stove.

My friends and I would get takeout and go eat it on the beach/in the park. It was really enjoyable and we still could support local businesses.

I live in Montreal and restaurants have been takeout only since OCTOBER.

Only thing I get is poutine, it goes without say.

The rules for patios are barricades and distances only...tell us how you expect everyone to eat with a mask on.

You’re supposed to be wearing a mask any time that you’re not actually eating or drinking. Several patrons weren’t doing that even when walking to and from their table, right past us at our table, within a couple of feet.
