I had a great pandemic

Objectively, I understand that covid 19 sucked ass, killed people and businesses, and created trauma, fear, arguments, and political drama. But since this is the Confessions section, and not the Public Statements of Good People Who Fear Cancellation Even Though There Is No Such Thing, I will admit that I might look back fondly on this period. I got really close with my family. My cat has never had more cuddles. We learned to make so many new dishes. I saved a ton of money not eating out and I also lost weight and got in shape. I picked up new hobbies and finally caught up on my reading. I feel slightly bad about this and it's nothing I can tell people in person because they may have had the exact opposite reaction, hence, a confession.

I love most of what you said except for the part where you said that there’s no such thing as cancellation. There absolutely is and it’s an epidemic of ridiculousness. Speaking from the perspective of a 70+ year old, I can say with certainty that this past decade has done more to stifle free speech than any decade I’ve experienced in my lifetime. It’s absurd.

didn't change that much other than distancing at grocery stores. Didn't socialize much or travel anyway and found it easier to work from home. I still feel bad for those more affected .

It completely upended my life, derailed plans, exacerbated my anxiety, sparked depression... But also gifted me family time, a sense of peace and home and time to reflect on the world and my place in it.

I'm happy you turned a real negative (pandemic) into a positive, life-changing and healthier you. Inspiring!

@definitely maybe: being critiqued is not the same as being cancelled.

Ummm

George Carlin said the average person is stupid which means half of them are stupider than that. But you couldn't always tell who was who.

Between anti-maskers, anti-vaxxers and pro-Trumpers it has never been easier to tell who the idiots and assholes are.

Definitely Cancellation

I'm at the tail end of Gen X and a year off from being a millennial, and I agree with Definitely Maybe. To deny cancellation, and division culture exists and isn't being orchestrated from the top is either pure evil or pure ignorance in which evil flourishes.
