New Normal

It's not polite to ask, but If I hear about someone passing, I automatically assume it's from fentanyl, not corona.

In the last year in BC, the death numbers of dug overdoses and covid have been around the same. The only differences being age groups- covid is almost all elderly and/or suffering from other serious ailments.

Yeah for sure

I liked Trump's war on fentanyl... with China. I wish our government was so brave, but they follow the money and influence of power instead.

Not polite??

Since when is anything associated with death particularly polite?

I'm so sick of explaining to people that my husband died of cancer. Just stop assuming, people! And stop thinking of death as something to avoid talking about. Just effing ask. Man, our culture is so messed up when it comes to death and grieving.

“Automatically assume”…?? The only thing deadlier than a virus or overdose crisis is that hack method of thinking. Good luck with your future sleuthing endeavours.

Policy crisis

That's not the only difference. Dehumanizing people, not addressing their mental health issues, making them wait for help until it's too late. Funding systems of oppression instead of funding mental health services. War on drugs? Right cause that always worked so well in the past.

You know what they say about assuming.
It could make an ass out of you :)

Yes, but it seems overdose deaths aren't important enough to report on a regular basis. Do these people have less value? And @policy crisis : well said, totally agree.
