Survival Kit

I have spent the last year fighting isolation, depression and anxiety and I just need to say: Otis Redding, pork dumplings with ponzu, the funny way crows walk, the ion smell of the ocean, sleeping on fresh sheets, hot showers on cold nights, Margot and Richie Tenenbaum, learning to shuck oysters, Blackadder whole 3rd season, toro sashimi, Junkook's smirk, stacks of half-read books, real wood fires, avocado and tomato salad, dry sarcasm, Empress gin martinis, episode 5 of Clarkson's farm, fresh flowers, Korean face masks, real crime podcasts, long walks, sleeping in, making my own lattes, cat videos on YouTube and, most of all, gratitude for every little thing that has gotten me through every day of this year. Also cheese, Lainey Gossip and pornhub. And the Knowledge network! Okay I'm done now.

I love this OP! I’m so happy that you’re able to find joy and gratitude in the little things, and hope you’re doing better! I’ve been meaning to start a gratitude journal for quite some time, but I always think I don’t have much to write about. Your post had changed my view on this! There is indeed so much to be grateful for!

... decided that I would finally use Instagram and I like all the cows that are on there there's actually numerous accounts about people who own cows who would have thought?

You also get to see all the different dog breeds like they all have different personalities I just find all cats are mostly the same they're either more standoffish or less standoffish but dogs I mean there are so many corgis and chows and other fun breeds on Instagram.

And after having live for several decades and having tried to avoid conspicuous consumerism I found that I actually enjoy collecting grateful dead records I mean I don't have a record player yet but I'm going to get one I think and then I can listen to them.

Like they have a big box set of shows that were from the Pacific Northwest in 73 and 74 and I've literally never bought anything like that since I was in high school I bought some CDs but you know I thought okay come on this is sort of a gimmick but I bought it and I really enjoy listening to them I mean they're even shows that are available for free but these are remixed from the Masters and it's just so amazing the way they're done.

I don't hold out much hope that the current incarnation dead and company will come to Canada but Bobby we're used to come up here with rat dog so I don't see why he can't again can't the people in the Georgia Street use their immense political pull to get something like that?

OP here…

I have no doubt that my chippy optimism is an irritant to my more nihilistic friends and colleagues, but it turns out that by just focusing more on the things that make me happy and less on the things that don’t, I am happier. I am astonished it’s that simple, but there we are.

I wonder what the poor people do who are fighting isolation, depression and anxiety?
