I hate politics

Maybe this is not much of a confession but I digress. Some people asked me if I would ever be interested in running for City Council in the next municipal election comes up. No thanks. Not in the least. Never in a million years. Why would I want to sit through long boring tedious meetings and deal with idiots and hypocrites every nook and cranny? I’m nowhere near diplomatic so if there’s one thing I’m not good at, it’s kissing ass.

If you think municipal or provincial governments are disorganized, you should see the federal government. I think the house of commons is the biggest nuthouse in all of Canada.

Yeah, but do you vote?

The real hypocrites are the people who don't vote and then complain about who's in power.
The real fucking idiots are the people who don't realize that politics affects their lives. The politicians are the ones who make the rules/laws that affect your life. Don't like the laws? Get politically involved so you can/get them changed.

It is...

... precisely because you hate politics that you are a good candidate.

"Why would I want to sit through long boring tedious meetings and deal with idiots and hypocrites every nook and cranny?"

Because if you don't, someone worse than you, who actually likes politics, and believes it is a "good thing" will get into office.

I think you are over-estimating the amount of ass you have to kiss. Can you swear at the staff like the old days? No. But you are allowed to respectfully disagree with them, you just can't humiliate them, or WorkSafe gets involved, if they know how.

If you're elected, you basically cannot be removed. I think you are making an excuse to avoid hard work---if you don't want to do it, that is fine, but if you are a viable candidate and your honest attitude is that you hate politics, I'd vote for you, not that you could tell that to the punters =]

I get it

I’ve been asked about politics as well because I’m kinda smart, a problem solver, and have no stage fright. But I wouldn’t do it in a million years. It’s the personalities. Anyone who can put up with the hassles and compromises of political office doesn’t deserve political office. And as someone who has gone to city hall to listen to and add to the public feedback process - no. I don’t want to listen to that constantly. I could not do it and stay healthy

But, suggest lets not use the 'hate' word. Ya know "love even them who do you wrong." Actually hate is what historically got our ancestors side tracked into polyticks

I like politics. Only a child doesn't want to participate in their democracy. There are people in Canada that would love to take that privilege away from you.

Nothing wrong with knowing what you're not suited for.

I wouldn't go into politics because I tend to say dumb things without thinking. So I get involved in other ways, like putting my support behind good candidates.

All you have

To have is integrity, that solves everything. It would be hard work as in mentally exhausting, but if people think you should do it, I would take that as compliment and conisider it.
