A younger man

is after me! 7 years younger to be exact!! We dated once 8 years ago for a few months but then I moved away. We’ve been friends and kept in touch sporadically, and now suddenly he is totally into me!! I like him and I like the idea of living with him, but I feel a bit weird about being the older one as a woman. It’s just been my experience always that men tend to prefer younger females, and also I’m significantly more well off than he is so how can I possibly trust him fully? We do get along great though and always have, and I look young. I wish it didn’t matter to me but it does!! On the one hand, it would be nice to be with a younger guy, since older men tend to be more controlling and want a more traditional woman and I’m not into that. But on the other, if I start to really age, what’s to stop him from just going for someone young?!

You sound young too!

Yes! You! Do!

7 years is no big deal, and lots of women date younger men. I dated a guy in his 20’s when I was in my 50’s. As for the money thing, has it occurred to you how much of a double standard your comment illustrates? Why should women be exempt from a guy who might be attracted to her money, as many men claim that all women want is their money? My ex of many years (who was older than me) has made a career out of mooching off of women, and I was only one of many women he did that to. So just because a man is younger doesn’t mean he’s automatically after your money, because guys who do that are all ages. Anyway, from the way you express yourself you sound either very young or extremely inexperienced with dating. So perhaps you two would be a good match.

1/3 of the partners I've had were older than me. By 5 years at the most, more than that creates a bit of a generation gap. You're probably over-thinking it unless he's after your money.

Turn your brain off and stop overthinking all of the cliches typically associated with May-December relationships.

"It’s just been my experience always that men tend to prefer younger females"
First off- not "always", not all men and not at all ages.
However- funny you don't mention that it's very common knowledge that women prefer older guys. until they reach their 30's.
So if you're going to low key take shots at anyone, go after the majority of younger women who only date older guys.

I'm 40,well established, and literally have 20's women chasing and flirting me up all the time.

I’m in the same boat as you (albeit with a completely different issue) and I think we should both remind ourselves that uncertainty is a universal thing in relationships. You could date an older man and HE could decide he wants to bang a 20-year old or you could give this younger guy a chance and be happy with him.

This isn’t an excuse to be reckless, just a reminder that there are never any guarantees.

save him from you.

Oh the generalizations and gender stereotypes are strong with this one. “older men tend to be more controlling”. Haha yeah ok, once a dude hits a certain age his entire personality changes, sure. “If I start to really age”. So funny: either you age or you die, you don’t get to stay static forever. I don’t think you should stay with him simply because YOU seem like the weirdo nightmare, obsessed with age and only concerned about how he sees you, not how you see him. You are the older one, but wow, definitely not the wiser one.
