I didn't know that. Any speculation why he hid? I know he died of throat cancer because of his cigarette addiction. The fact that he had a lifelong addiction says something.

It pays to research your heroes before you call them that. I went to a Granville Island Book Festival to see an author whose very popular novel and subsequent movie I found deeply inspiring. I expected to meet a creative sage. Instead, I spent two hours listening to a petty, mean-spirited elitist sneer at everyone who came to appreciate his art. Nasty little man, and I do not care how good his other books are. He shall not receive a single penny more from me.

since I was in elementary school. Lately listening to some of his lyrical wisdom it occurs to me that he was just repeating what his gurus told him. The music is still wonderful.

The Beatles were a boy band before jumping on the hippy bandwagon. A bit like how Madonna or other pop stars “reinvent themselves” to stay relevant and keep the money rolling in.
