I Saw Her Face

We've been wearing masks over a year where I live. Everyone has been wearing them, presumably mostly because the penalties if you don't are severe. Anyway, that isn't the point. The point is a woman made eye contact with me the other day and then briefly lowered her mask as if to show me her face. I didn't reciprocate and she pulled it back up and walked off. I've been going through a bit of an internal crisis since then though trying to come to grasps with a dystopian world where something like exposing your face could be a flirtation.

It's common

But you gotta start making decisions. The mask mandate ended July 2nd, and you know where you are on your vaccines(0, 1, or 2). This should not be about someone else showing you their face, but how you are to the rest of the world. I work in a tourist-y, high traffic place and many people are going through "who they are or want to be". I say this with compassion, because as hard as it was for people to adapt going into a pandemic, many many many more will not adapt well coming out. Hope you get another chance to make the impression you want. :)

What a dumb comment. You think everyone is responsible? Look around you.

No one's done THAT to me before but I saw a guy in the dentist waiting room with a mask over his nose but not his mouth....

Is this like flashing someone? lol

I'll show you mine if you show me yours!

But seriously, if she was actually somewhat interested in you (enough to show you her face), why wouldn't she just say hi or something? I'd probably have been just as confused by the whole thing as you. Don't feel too bad.

what if it wasn't flirtation at all? What if was good old smile-at-someone-on-the- sidewalk, a nice social gesture like our bodies are hardwired to do since like, I don't know, cave living? I smile at people all the time, mask or not mask. It's part of being human. Maybe you just looked friendly? Maybe she was having a good day?

Love this confession

If it of happened to me I would’ve panicked and not reciprocated
Then spend the rest of my life wondering if that was the one that got away
