My old man.

Worked hard all his life. Still working, doing heavy manual labor at age 70. A good person, a kind friend. I wish I could afford to help him retire.

Be careful for what you wish for.

Retirement often spells a fast death for people used to working hard.

As an older working father, i can say it would bring tears to my eyes if my kids even noticed,.. What a good child you are for noticing your dad, and wishing you could make his life better.
Now go and tell him face to face.

Maybe, uh, one of the ones Closest and most responsible re him, should like... help him out a bit, you know, for once in his life.

Maybe even reunify him with his real family, or something?

Just a suggestion - I don't expect any of you will ever allow or do that.

I think this is true in general not just for hard workers. Life isn't like a candle it's not like you get so much wax and then it's gone the more you work the longer you last I mean if he's like constantly in pain or something like that yeah maybe he should take it easy but if he can still do it it's fine.

I've worked with older adults and one of the things that keeps them limber mentally and physically is having something to do where they're following orders because as soon as you get into a state where you are not following orders you're just doing what you want to do that's actually not good for you because a lot of the tone in your nervous system and your cerebral vasculature in my view comes from both giving and receiving orders not just sitting around being catered to.

I've now watched several family members age and it confirms what I thought from working with the elderly the ones who keep doing things they're much better off mentally the ones who have this vision of retiring and doing nothing which sometimes just involves watching television or playing solitaire they don't tend to do very well.

If he wants to work that's good and it's better to be a 70-year-old who still working labor than to be a 70 year old who can't work labor and there are plenty of those.

Due to a lot of education and great investments.
Traveled, partied, laid on beaches, went to Ibiza, etc and after 2 years was tired and bored.
So I started a small landscaping company, and make great money mowing (other) rich people's lawns, while they sit at home and go stir crazy.
