Sorry to do this all the time...

But I cannot help it. I always tend to virtue signal when talking about politics because I know people will react positively... I am trying to stop it...... It just seems to use an actual problem as a means to an end in a relationship. It's really strange.

Or are you simply a decent person expressing your values honestly? Nothing wrong with that imo.

My opinion; I don't think it really matters what side of the political spectrum you're on because I don't think any of the politicians of any party share any of our political spectrums. I think they have their own agenda and are looking out for their own interests and the interests of those whose pockets they're reaching into outside our tax dollars. I think they virtue signal, I think they pretend. I think they're a bunch of actors for their puppet masters. I think they lie in Parliament. I think they take opposite sides of a lie and argue that lie making us think that they're opposed to each other while really their song and dance around it is just there to perpetuate their lies. There is no truth in any of them. I think people just need to have a conscience, they need to speak their conscience, and they need to live their conscience. Any relationship where you need to pretend is never a relationship worth having.

This is actually super simple. Stop telling people who you are/what kind of person you are and show them. Let them develop an understanding of you based on how you actually show up, not how you want to market yourself. FYI, virtue signaling is a HUGE red flag. Massive. Connected to tendencies to gaslight and towards abuse, so you may need actual counselling around this.

OP, I think you virtue signal because it helps you feel like you're on the right side when others give you positive feedback. You're looking for love and acceptance. The question is, do you really agree with the things you are saying? Maybe you should just figure out the way you really feel about things and be honest with yourself and those around you.

Sure, there are communal narcissists that like to demonstrate how "generous" and "enlightened" they are to the wider public while gaslighting and abusing people in private. However, if OP is self-aware and willing to admit that calling attention to their virtues is something they need to work on, I doubt they fall into this abusive category of people.
Also to keep in mind is that "virtue signalling" is one of those Fox News buzzwords similar to "cancel culture" and "woke culture" used to dismiss any argument that doesn't fall into a right-wing ideology. I have a hard time trusting it as a concept and feel as though more context is needed to determine whether OP is showing off disingenuously as opposed to simply stating an opinion that embraces a political viewpoint that they wholeheartedly believe in.

It does not matter who coined the terms "virtue signalling and cancel culture". Everyone knows exactly what they mean and they clearly communicate a real cultural phenomenon. So they serve a much-needed purpose when we communicate. There are much more negative ways to express the same ideas, by the way. I think these terms are fairly politically neutral. They can be used by anyone anywhere on the political spectrum.

It is not the case that everyone agrees on what they mean—you can see that from this thread alone. For example, some people say that “cancel culture” doesn’t exist as a distinct concept, rather that it is a rebranding of boycotts and people facing consequences for their actions.
