Vaccinated, but not passporting

I just don’t feel comfortable sharing my address, birthdate, driver’s license number, and personal health number with people at every restaurant, sporting event or movie theatre I may go to. All it takes is for one of them to misuse my information to cause a ton of identity theft issues. Prior to the pandemic I would have to show my ID less than a handful of times per year. Now it could be that many times or more in a week. Seeing the Lions or Canucks or whatever latest movie just isn’t worth having to now show ID first. Hopefully this doesn’t stay in place for more than a year.

Do you go to bars? They card you for ID. Think about it: when on earth does anyone at the door have time to collect that info? Do you see them with a pen and paper or a scanner? No. You would've had ID theft by now but any dolt at the door can see that there's too much turnover for something like that to occur.
While the vaccine passport has info along with verification that you were vaccinated, all they do is check to see if the names match, not pour over every detail for minutes on end.
Nobody has the time to do this level of stealth ID info collection. They're too busy processing you and that whole line of people around you.
Your paranoia is excessive in the face of real life circumstances, but if you're that bothered there's lots of virtual fun online and you can learn to cook or do takeout.

My thoughts too . I’m sure there will be a few ID thefts or other screw ups techwise down the road a bit .

QR codes

What I understand is that the QR codes themselves don't generally contain information beyond a link to the right site for verification, but it's the person/business doing the scanning that can be vulnerable and subject to hacking. You aren't sharing private info each time the passport is scanned.

This is my concern too. How long they're going to enforce the passports. There should be a time when they are no longer required because pandemics don't last forever.

I find

the amount of trust Canadians place in government to be hilarious. And the lack of concerns around privacy to be doubly so.

You are not 'sharing'

These details, these details are not being collected or stored. The production of one's ID is to ensure the person viewing the ID can verify that the name and photographic likeness matches the person presenting both the QR code and picture ID.
Grow up.

They really just glance at your picture

to see if it's you, nothing else. Fast and easy, in my experience.

That's why I am not voting NDP or Liberal. They care more about optics than anything reasonable.

Please educate yourself

How have you come to the conclusion that every establishment is somehow going to get all of that information from you showing your vaccination evidence? Do you even know what it is or how it looks? As if they’d have either the manpower or the time to record all of that from each person who enters! Get a grip.
