What is fun?
posted September 28th, 2021 at 6:59 PM
I used to walk around stores and malls, watch films in the movie theatre, sit in cafes drinking coffee and read or write for hours. I used to travel. I used to love the sauna, visit the gym and go to restaurants. I used to hang out at friends houses. Few if any of these things feel safe or wise to do anymore. My friends have moved away. I am left wondering what is fun in my life.

It’s just that we’ve fallen out of the habit of such activities. We will get back there eventually and the feelings will return in time. For now it’s hard to access them with the current situation.
Sorry about your friends leaving, that’s hard. We need to fix housing policy.

Starting a family sounds like an adventure…

I used to be a pin up grade rock musician, and today all that's left is memories and shaking hands some mornings.

Fun is for kids. Once you are old, you aim for contentment. That's when you sigh quietly and happily because nothing's wrong.
Right there with you

I too miss the sauna, wandering the malls, hanging out at coffee shops, restaurant hopping, losing my mind on the dance floor, unwinding at the spa…. Now for fun I just hike and walk and bike around and do very small patio gatherings, cook treats. We will get through this and those fun things will be in reach someday. And yeah, waiting patiently for that day. As for the friends, keep trying to make new friends through your interests. It’s still possible in the pandemic and you don’t want to be totally alone through this winter.

It is nice to hear from someone who gets what it's all about. Constantly chasing "happy" is the best way to constantly be miserable.

Some people don't need to "chase" happiness because happy is a natural state.
