Can we all be dishwashers?

I'm sure this will be an unpopular one... I work my ass off 40-50 hrs a week like most people, I have a chip on my shoulder for the wealthy and privileged, and I'm on the side of people trying to make a livable wage. I really am, we shouldn't have so much poverty in a first world country, it's shameful. But if dishwashers and baristas are gonna make upwards of 50K a year, do you realize that absolutely NOBODY is going to want to be hospital manager, industrial electrician or engineer etc for an extra few bucks an hour? I can tell you I sure as hell wouldn't. Wouldn't the world kind of stop turning?

Baristas and dishwashers don’t make anywhere near $50K/yr. Also, most people in those positions are in school and are in mountains of debt and will be for decades. The system is seriously flawed. How about we offer free education? Now there’s an idea!

Be thankful for what you do have and realize much the World's population would like have the relative advantages we have in Good Ole' Canada. Sure it ain't perfect here but we enjoy amongst the most prosperity and fair system of justice in the world. And suggest you quit trying to figure it all out. 'Over analysis leads to paralysis.'

Animosity that you have towards people who have done well, and redirect that energy into working smarter-not harder.
I grew up poor, and with hard work, planning, and trying things- while failing many times- I have done very well.
People of your ilk being pissy at me with their shitty attitudes, will never get anywhere in life.

... 50k incomes are still not enough to buy a home in Vancouver especially not a detached one. As someone who has worked in technology since I was in grade 8 I say that I do it cuz I enjoy it better than being a dishwasher. And I don't think there's any of risk what with the horrible economic situation in the Lower Mainland Visa V real estate that people will stop working as industrial electricians or Hospital managers or Engineers. These people aren't necessarily paid the big bucks but they do tend to make more than 50k a year. Also more generally inflation is out of control and the problem is that the inflation to everyone so all salaries aren't Rising you have like double-digit inflation for some things and well over 2% for many food items but no one's getting a 5% yearly raise. But those prices go up so who's getting that money? Also what does livable wage mean in a world where if you retire at 65 you might live till ninety or a hundred? You might live to be a hundred and ten who knows what the increase in life expectancy will be over the next years. Or you have that hip break that you need and your option is to go to the states and have it done or suffer for eight months while the public system puts you on a waiting list? So people who have a larger view of the costs associated with living and living well I think they'll continue to work job said pray even a few bucks more an hour. Because they won't be looking at that in terms of the per hour they'll be looking that as money they can invest over a time span of 30 years 40 years or whatever.

What does a cook make? That job requires some skill and creativity. 50k is just enough to live in Vancouver, but that person will still not be buying a house.

What's the solution to "we shouldn't have so much poverty in a first world country, it's shameful."?
Trying to emulate the Scandinavian countries with 50% income tax, 25% sales tax, and massive government debt?
Or how about making better choices in life and rising to the occasion?
Trying to make everybody equal, at the expense of those who work to make extra for themselves- only puts everybody down and is called Communism. There's been several, many decades long experiments such as this and they have always failed.

I would rather be any of those professions you mentioned then work at a restaurant. Wouldn't it be better to use your brain all day and do something beneficial for society? Also, all those other jobs you mention pay much more than 50K a year

Yes, you are completely right. Absolutely everyone would prefer the soothing joy that washing dishes for 8 hours a day for 40 years would bring. Much more preferable to intellectual stimulation or creating a lifetime body of work or having new challenges. Because everyone is absolutely the same and everyone wants the exact same things.
