I am glad you are building momentum and moving forward. However, don't pretend that this post is a show of "empathy" when your words are in fact shaming people for being rattled and disoriented by the intense psychological toll COVID has taken.

Two key lessons from the past 18 months are 1) any control you think you have over life may disintegrate instantaneously and 2) Mother Nature ain't done reckoning with us yet. In my humble opinion, the present moment is where it's at.

Let's see, Great war started in August 1914 and ran continuously until November 11, 1918. Not 2.5 years, but more than 4. If your knowledge of epidemiology is as accurate as your knowledge of history.....

WW1 went from summer of 1914 to 11/11 of 1918, well over 4 years in case you can't do the basic math..which it seems.

Not the only strange comment in this post, but one that warrants correction is that World War One somehow lasted only 2.5 years. It actually lasted from 28 July 1914 to 11 November 1918. That comes to 4 years and 3+ months. Perhaps you were thinking of the more U.S. involvement in WWI. If so, you are still wrong. The US declared war on 6 April 1917. Their total official involvement comes to 19+ months. These are the facts.

They are not the only facts you are unaware of. By your own admission, you have not been paying attention since spring. You would do well to tune back in. I would suggest you start with learning about the Delta variant and breakthrough infections. That idea that the "pandemic ended at the end of spring" for anyone can only truly be applied to those unfortunate people that have lost their lives to it. A global pandemic is not under control until it is under control globally. If you think you can impose your will in this...you are sadly and potentially dangerously delusional. And it is irresponsible to promote this view.

You would do well to learn a little more history. But some more attention to and understanding of current events are much more likely to keep you safe, along with your family, friends and other contacts.

Having a passport doesn't mean much if they're going to de facto prevent you from leaving Canada without a vaccination. I guess you can always buy a boat...but let's be honest: we have no idea what's going to happen in five years.

We have Patricia Daly on a widely circulated video, she's Coastal Health's Chief Medical Officer or something, saying that gyms, restaurants, etc. are not even big vectors for transmission, the passport exists to stimulate vaccine uptake in the population.

So, if they don't get what they want (80%? 90% 100%) then, by the logic we are now seeing public health deploy, they will simply apply a stronger aversive stimulus. We're already seeing nurses fired in Quebec (in the midst of a pandemic...people who managed to work even when there was no vaccine...).

In some sense, WW1 never ended: passports were more or less introduced as a "temporary" measure. Same thing for income tax, in 1916.

So, what conclusion do we draw from this? WW1 never ended, and the Government is still fighting the good fight, or do we draw the conclusion that Governments have a history of introducing "temporary measures" and then continuing them indefinitely as the "new normal"?

I completely agree that "life won't wait," but the problem is, since WW1, it has basically been one "temporary measure" made permanent after another---whether this is "good" or "bad" is a different question from whether it is a fact. It is a fact.

Within the next century, if not already, it will be technologically possible to implant devices (nanotechnology, etc.) into people's bodies, in order to control their behavior.

Is it reasonable that your employer should be able to require you to have a nanotech injection that will make you 100% compliant with Corporate Policy? That is not far-flung science fiction, within the next 100 years it could become a reality.

Should Translink be able to mandate bus drivers be nanotech augmented?
