Job hunting

Taking a break from the cover letter writing, resume customizing, company researching and interview preparing. I’m drained. I’m the kind of person who can imagine myself working at each company. Mentally I can visualize myself there. And then I get the bots notifying me I didn’t make the cut. Dead ends after hours of energy output. For anyone looking for a job like me, I feel your pain and hope that we find a fit soon, at the salary we deserve. For those that had their jobs handed to them, because of their dad, friend or husband, I have no respect for you as you’ve ridden off the position of others without doing any of the heavy lifting.

Don’t give up! Rejection is part of life. Keep on searching. There’s an opportunity out there somewhere waiting for you.

You had me until your last couple of lines. So you’re saying that if you were lucky enough to get a job handed to you, you wouldn’t have taken it? I agree that many people who’ve been this lucky don’t really appreciate how much of a head start in life that gives them, but saying you have no respect for them isn’t rational either.

Lots of opportunities

out there. I just quit my retail job for a much better one in tech. But I hesitate to condemn those who have an easy ride. No one chooses their life. Some have more privilege and some have less. Some are good looking, some are not. It’s no ones fault, it just is.

You're drained after researching on the internet and writing a few letters?! I've got 2 jobs to support myself and 2 kids. I am exhausted by 8PM. Good luck supporting yourself with the constitution of a gnat.

That if someone in Canada is on social assistance / a.k.a. welfare, they are in the tope 10% of wealth in this World. Its also a fact that there is a worker shortage in Canada at this time and business is begging for reliable workers. Hey! I'm not saying life is easy in these Covid/ClimateCrisis/Cuckoo times but when we quit feeling sorry for ourselves and face the future with resolve, there is 'Opportunity in Adversity.' I remember when I was starting school in Grade 1 and I had a hard time getting out of bed in the morning, my dear ole' dad RIP used to encourage me: "Son push yourself to get out of bed, put your pants on one leg at a time, and face the day." I wasn't very good at taking advice way back then, but I sure do remember and miss my parents now.

Keep it up! Get some networking going

I don’t know your experience but if you know any management at the companies you wish to work at, invite them for coffee and introduce yourself. Get talking to people on your field. Finding a job when you’re not working is tough and it can be a real grind. Personally I took a year break which lasted 6 months longer than anticipated due to the job hunt. It’s tough, you’ll find something then you’ll excel! Head up, it’s only going to get better!

A few years back I had a second interview booked at a good company, well known for being a progressive place to work. I knew there was a fit, very pleased I got a second meeting. Had to buy new shoes with the last bit of money we had, family in the car outside waiting for me (can't remember why but they had to come along) while I sat in the reception room off the main office. It was the end of October and the staff was having a helluva' fun office Halloween costume party and kept smiling and laughing at me in a most welcoming way as they walked by. I was SO stoked to know I would be working there when...a manager came out and asked me if I got their phone call, that they had chosen someone else. I just died inside. Felt really humiliated. They had called after I'd left the house, not very considerate. Wasted money and gas we didn't need to spend. It was awful but I eventually got over it. Can really relate. Good luck with your job search, it'll work out.
