Nodding politely

I confess that for years I would nod politely as my bf would tell me the same stories over and over about his former days as a nightclub bouncer. Meanwhile I’d want to scream NOT AGAIN as he’d talk about one fight after another. So many years and no new stories! I’m with someone new now, and I just realized that I don’t have to nod politely anymore, because he’s genuinely interesting and isn’t always trying to impress me with his physical prowess. Progress!

Same same

except it was a BS narrative about growing up on a dirt road & how difficult it was raising horses & having acres of land to enjoy.
I guess one persons sob story is another’s dream life?!?
Could be way worse. The people listening to your story wish they had it that “rough!”

My ex used to talk about her days as a hostess in Tokyo every time we went out for Asian food. What a turn off

Your confession is infused with bitterness and not a little mean-spirited sister. I bet you're hoping your ex will see your post and feel cut down, right? Come on, admit it. How many people have you told about your post appearing in The Straight? How many of those people know the poor guy you're running down? Next time you see him, be nice, and maybe even apologise. It's not his fault you no longer have a preference for guys who value physical prowess. Stories are told and re-told by parents, siblings, friends and lovers, and because we love them, we listen. Clearly, you were once impressed by your ex's physical prowess. What did he like about you?

Yeah

We all tend to repeat the same stories over and over, it's human nature. It does get a bit monotonous after awhile if it's a constant thing. Usually a sign people are stuck in the past and aren't evolving, nobody wants to be stuck in a relationship with someone like that.

And what did you prattle on about endlessly that drove him crazy?
Some TV shows, the new clothing line at whatever store, the new Michael Korrs bag, what your frenemies are doing on FB all the while looking at and posting on social media every 7 minutes?
More often that not,any woman I've known has been like that.

of insecurity. Men who are always boasting about being tough are just overcompensating for lack of any real balls and a deep denial of their mediocrity.

I...

... have a number of friends and acquaintances who tell the same story over and over. I don't mind it. I have full capacity to interrupt someone and talk over them if I want to so if I really got tired of it I'd change the subject. What I wouldn't do is sit there seething about how they aren't catering to me. Did you ever tell him I heard that story before maybe you tell a different story? I mean there's a delicate way to do this. I know people who are professionals and who are retired now and let's face it as people age they often get stuck in Rust. So one of the best ways to deal with this is if you know where the story is going on you say oh right I remember that's what he said. And then you're telling part of the story and that's a good way of showing that you won pay attention to the person + 2 is that you're helping them tell their story and helping remind them that they've already told it. I would have no problem with someone not enjoying this I guess but I have the view that people call have different capacities. So if someone tells the same story over and over will that means it's important to them. And if you don't like it well like just go away but don't go away mad right
