Not understanding how to post-Covid it

I feel wrecked. I lost all of my passion and work sucked me back into the office commute exhausting grind. I have had multiple job offers and haven’t been able to accept them. I’m just ground down. I have no idea how to get my energy, motivation, and old positive outlook back! All I know is that my job and the people there are crushing me. I need to escape.

Quit

If you’re not happy in your current job, then look for a better one. Once you find a better opportunity, give two weeks notice. Good luck.

The way...

... that a minority of technocrats, aided by a zombie mass of social media junkies, are making us live, is positively inhumane. Imagine if it were a choice between everyone being ground down and the hospital system failing because, for the sake of argument, people realized it was illegal to force people to pay for other people's medical care.

Which would you choose?

Don't quit

yet. Talk to HR or your boss and apply for a short term leave of absence - get your doctors backing. All employers have a duty to accommodate reasonable requests especially around health and mental health.

Don't give up your vacation time, that's a mistake a lot of people make and then when back, they face a loooonng road of no time off, which is a kick to the mental health again. EI has a "sick benefit". Look into it. You may even have short term salary coverage through your EAP/benefits plan at work. Make a plan. Investigate. If you do you can get some time to get yourself right or get an idea of what you need to do. Get your Dr. behind you. Don't quit just yet.

Your work is not your worth

In listening to your last couple of sentences from the perspective of someone who has experienced multiple mental health crises, it sounds like finding a path out of your current situation is a priority.

My heart goes out to you. It is no fun to feel trapped and suffocated, and this feeling can easily escalate to the point where we start dreaming of ways out that put ourselves in mortal peril.

I like the suggestions put forth by “Don’t quit,” but also realize that not all workplaces treat their workers as humans as opposed to machines and may undermine the seriousness of your situation.

My suggestion would be to take time off from working in whatever way you can and to not worry too much about the dignity of your departure. You WILL find your footing again, even if it doesn’t feel that way at first.

I’ve learned that it is critical, when our souls are shouting “stop!!!” in a world that tells us to constantly go go go, to take that pause, feel the discomfort of going against the grain, rest and rejuvenate, and reassess who we are and what is important. And often people who do so realize what is important is not work and who they have become to operate and survive in a work environment is not their true self.

Take care and best of luck. There is always a way out. Sending encouragement, care, and strength.
