Channel Yawnsville

I hardly watch much TV these days. Most cable channels rarely show good movies like they used to and the news is boring. I don’t even care to watch local news anymore…dead body this, Covid that, police transition this, vaccine that. Same old song and dance. I guess no news is good news.

A screen is a screen is a screen.

Tons of people have cancelled their cable and pay an eye-watering amount for internet instead. It's still a screen. It's still a time killer. "What did you do with your life?" "Oh I was constantly Instagram and YouTube. That's my big life accomplishment."

I unplugged the HellaVision a couple of years ago. Boring programs and the newscasters are the worst. They all follow the some irritating vocal cadence and tone. Its sickening. I check a bit of the news online but only selectively open the occasional headline. The headlines usually tell me all I need to know. Hey CBC Radio ain't perfect but its better than the hellavision.

You need to find good content.

I don't think it's easy to find quality programming, but since switching to streaming only, I seem to have a lot of choices. There is almost always something good to watch. Even just Youtube alone could keep me happy - classic films, educational stuff...infinite possibilities.

If you want to feel blue, turn on the news.

Cbc is some of the worst MSM out there. Why do Canadians pay to be force fed their narrative? And news headlines rarely tell the whole story, they're crafted in a way to spread a very specific well designed message, should dig deeper than that, that's why so many people are misinformed about reality.

Don’t even get me started. This whole RCMP versus municipal police force bullshit has gotten way out of hand. Dear God, what the hell is going on in Surrey? The lame stream media sure is having a field day. Pretty much why I stopped watching local news a long time ago.

No real news

From what I've gathered the news business has cut down so far on staff and resource funding they repeat the news everyone else is repeating. The internet is a good source and you can get a broader sense of what's going on but beware as the disinformation machine is going full bore. TV wise, Island news is a great respite with more local stories. The corporate-ization of media outlets has only done the general public a great disservice. More independents are needed.

I haven't had the kind of television you speak of since I moved out my parents' house in the 80s
