I love my small town

Living In a small town is great, you never know who you’ll bump into. Old friend from high school, guy I had a crush on in grade 3, or that fun moment when your ex is right behind you in a line up and you don’t notice at all till you leave. Life is so full of surprises I can’t wait to get up and out there to see what happens next.

I live in the big city. I love the sirens, the beautiful sound of garbage trucks at6:30 am, the theft, murder and all the other mayhem.

These are the things I DONT miss about my small home town. I did not enjoy running into old akward ex girlfriends, that guy in high school I barely knew, an old friend that drifted apart and we have nothing in common anymore. I do miss how quiet it is, and driving around smalltown streets is a treat (no gridlock, insane drivers). I miss my family. But I also found it boring, lacking in night life, arts, culture, comedy, sports. Vancouver is my home! I need dynamic excitement, Canucks games, big concerts, freaky liberal progressive people, heaps of restaurants and breweries, parks, nature and so on. Big cities have it all.

Small town 35 years ago lived in the big cities had lots of fun now moving back to that same town that I loved 35 years ago and can't wait to see who I run into in the old haunts that are surprisingly still there after all these years..I'm sure some are alive, some are dead but I'm excited to go back HOME!!!

Big city? Vancouver, including the metro area, is ~ 2.6 million people. That's about the same as Yantai, Bandung, Tashkent and Huizhou. Never heard of those places? Me neither!

Grew Up

In a small town, and left right after grad. Went back 25 years later to try it out and be around while my dad endured cancer. And couldn't wait to see it in my rearview mirror.
Nothing new to do nor see. People notice you and wonder what you are up to,and make note of you- countless times seen people sizing me up. Nosy neighbours. And is cliquish- very cliquish- if you don't behave just like them you can forget about making friends. Showing up to small town in a Mercedes convertible- as opposed to a pickup truck- doesn't go over well.

Here, no one notices me and that's how I like it.

Nosy neighbours only in small towns? Pfft, I live in the city and have unremarkably pathetic nosy neighbours. Like 5 year old bullies. It's got nothing to do with big, small cities. Sick people live everywhere.

Every weekend would run into the same people at the bar. Then we had an expo that made the city grow, then an Olympic Games and it grew more. Now Vancouver is a big city? I still run into people from highschool

As a non native past resident of Vancouver, I always found many of the locals to act in a highly small town manner.

They do silly stuff like drop the name of their high school, for example as if it means anything.

Can't think of anything worse than having my ex behind me in a line up. That's one of the reasons I moved.
