This pandemic

has given me a mental disorder. I sit for hours and look through my hair for split ends and pull them off until my neck and back ache and my mind goes completely numb. I can’t stop.

Its ok, your hair habit. I deal with my pandemic stress in much worse ways which I can’t type out here. We lost our old lives and were in a transition. How could you not be stressed.

I have it too but mine has to do with ear, eyebrow and nose hair's.
One in seven people have some form of it. It's tiring but can be cured.

I find a few drinks helps numb the stresses.
But can't do that forever.
We are all learning to adapt to our new sense of life and environment changes.
The world is a mess.

This kind of thing is an unconscious response to a high level of stress or distress in your system - it's a soothing and distracting attempt. But it's likely a painful one that doesn't actually soothe much, so if you can find and have at hand other activities you find soothing (a book, colouring or crafting, cooking, art making, even very engaging distracting TV), lean into those and you will likely find yourself pulling less. Be gentle to yourself, tell yourself it's okay to feel the need for soothing and distraction, and devote as much time as you can to it for a little while. Wishing you well - know that many of us are struggling too, you aren't alone.

Get a haircut and find another way to relieve stress and let your mind wander. Hot yoga does wonders for the soul.
