Work sucks

Pretty obvious that the labour movement is rising. I just got a new office job. There isn’t much to do. Today I spent a whole hour “inspecting paperwork”.

Boring work

Nov 17, 2021 at 3:10pm

I had a job like that before and I even asked for tasks to do. Sometimes they had something, other times not. I was amazed that they were willing to pay a full time person and then not give them much to do. Also when I came up with busy work for myself they would always seem to question whether that was the greatest use of my time. Even though it was either that or nothing.

Look up bullsh*t Jobs: a theory by David Graeber. From wiki: Bullshit Jobs: A Theory is a 2018 book by anthropologist David Graeber that postulates the existence of meaningless jobs and analyzes their societal harm. He contends that over half of societal work is pointless, and becomes psychologically destructive when paired with a work ethic that associates work with self-worth.

Enjoy what a covid workplace offers when it's boredom over stress.

Who are you people?

There is a recurring series of posts on this website of people humblebragging about their "boring" office jobs. So many of us out here would do anything to have a job like the OP's. We are stuck in low paying retail jobs or other awful service jobs despite having college degrees etc. Can I ask what your specific job title is OP? How did you get your job? I interviewed for an entry level office job a couple years ago, and despite several rounds of interviews, they still figured out an excuse not to hire me. Any tips?

... is plenty to do but our University feeder system does not graduate the best and brightest and then it also does not employ the best and brightest afterwards. And it's a problem throughout the whole thing. Whether you are making widgets and you incur the wrath of your other co-workers by showing them up by getting your work done faster than them or you're a Ph.D who is researching novel treatments for cancer who gets lecture by management for leaving her office too early because she can get it all done within 2 hours. And it's not the person getting it done within 2 hours or who produces widgets 25% faster than the average bear is it any sense all that Superior it's just that we have a society that those who can go 25% faster or taken care of because hey let's face it we need those people. We don't have a society even dedicated to ensuring that the PHD who can do her regulatory paperwork in 2 hours instead of a whole day can have is easy time of it is possible. No we have a world dedicated to ensuring that her five colleagues who take a whole day to do the regulatory paperwork aren't showing up by her leaving early. We have a world where the guy who gets his work done early because he's just a bit above average for not talking like Superman he's despised by those who are literally going Full Tilt to get their work done in the time allotted.

Not OP but I think you should keep looking. There are tons of places hiring right now. Especially if you are willing to actually go to the office. Many people are standing their ground on working from home. Offices are eager to hire people.

To the life of a government employee. I’m still unsure who uses more paper; the Feds or Provincial staff. Just remember numbers as it’s easier than remembering names. Good luck in your new position!
