If you will spend the holidays

With people who love you, you have no idea how lucky you are. I’ve been alone every Christmas, New Years, Birthday, etc etc for decades. It’s exhausting putting on a happy face and pretending I’m not dying inside because I’m so sad, lonely, and depressed. Please be gentle with people. You never know. I’m sure I look happy and successful on the outside. Really I’m just trying to figure out how to survive another miserably lonely holiday.

People can be the worst

Why the downvotes? I’m so sorry you’re suffering.

I get this as well. I'm lucky enough to have plans this year but alot of times (thanksgiving) I don't and it sucks. I feel your pain. You end up planning your days around one event so as not to have endless hours of alone time in your home. You're not alone for what it's worth.

We so often take the people in our lives for granted. They annoy us, they make mistakes, they’re definitely not perfect. But if we really ask ourselves how we’d feel if we never got a chance to see them again, usually the answer would be “awful”. As I’ve grown older I’ve realized how important it is to tell the people we love how we feel, and also to try to pay attention more to the good things about them than I do to the bad things or their mistakes. I hope that they’ll cut me the same slack too. Being alone in the world must be a very difficult thing to endure.

Treat yourself

Give yourself permission this Christmas to be generous, happy and free for you and you alone. You deserve some joy so make some for yourself whatever cheerful form that may take. Volunteer some time, the residual benefits are heavenly. Peace.

Not quite sure since aged 14 my life / family was destroyed so Mommy and daddy could do their own thing. Christmas died with that event.

Since then the holiday season seems like a corporate and fake event that want nothing to do with. Christmas alone is a great time to reflect. Fuck families since I don't already have one.

I've gone thru much family dysfunction and estrangement too, and experienced enough loneliness, but somehow the Universe has always provided and showed me the way. Hey! No one says this World is easy but there is beauty in this world and, fulfilment if you keep patient and be thankful for what you got.

You know what’s more exhausting than putting on a happy face when celebrating the holidays on your own? Celebrating it with family and friends who bring the drama and don’t have your best interests at heart.

I'm very much from a similar history as you; BUT why fall to hopelessness? There are many who despair the loneliness and would love to orbit with you. Call in the proper one(s) and start a new family. It worked for me.

"you have no idea how lucky you are." So the assumption is that we all take everything we have for granted - except for you. You claim you appear fine/happy, yet are confident others aren't faking it as much as you? Or there is no way that none of us absolutely treasure whatever time we have left with folks we like and maybe even love and are loved by? Or that some of us barely tolerate bizarre family traditions out of a sense of obligation and would love to be all alone?
