I'm 40 years old, and I still have people imposing their tattoo fetish on me. "When are you getting tatts dude?!" I'm all for self-expression, but I shouldn't have to have this conversation at this stage of my life, leave me alone. Keep your fetish to yourself.

Fetish? Tattoos are the accessory of the moment. A fetish would be interesting, there's no longer anything interesting about tattoos.

Hmm, how strange...

I'm genuinely curious about why they would want you to get a tattoo, or why that's even an expectation.

Totally agree

I personally don't see the interest in tattoos. I don't find them attractive, especially ones that cover large areas. Purple and green like bruises covering beautiful skin. It feels like people are drawn to following the latest trends to be in style. I don't share my opinion or force it on anyone though.

Tattoos were originally used as punishment, and to identify undesirables. Historically they also used dangerous inks (cinnabar). Why would anyone want to be more traceable?

People have asked me the same thing many times and I just simply say no. Thanks but no thanks.

I'm 38 (f) and have none. Everyone else I know seems to have them, so now I'm the most unique of the bunch!
One of my friends was even denied an MRI because of her tattoos since the ink can have metal and the mri magnets can shift it into organs or something.
I just buy fine jewelry. It costs the same but holds value and I can leave it to my niece after I die! Tattoos never appealed to me.

I don't think it's uncommon to meet people in Vancouver who are suffering from arrested development and would think such things are important into their 40s. The city has a stunted quality to it and it can't become a city of substance, appearances seem most paramount much of the time.

A marking/tattoo is no different than putting pronouns on your social media account. Just a signal to the others that we’re great and everyone else is made of hate.

Balloon

If you are EVER thinking of a tattoo, draw it on an inflated balloon and then deflate it. THAT is what you'll look like in 30 years.

You're welcome.
