Before & after Covid

Middle aged, only one freind (I do know she's busy what with being a single mom so I can't expect her to get to me always) anyways on disability (mental health shit) no girlfriend, stuck in a North Vancouver, bored, people ghost me, I attract the people I don't want to attract, sick of the internet & tv & you know it was even before the pandemic, time is running out & I can't take it (btw I have been told to join a group or volunteer or take a class yet people who tell me that don't do that)..... anyway that's all.

Silver lining, you're not in an office enduring gossip, backstabbing, turning people against one another and forming coalitions to ostracize some poor bastard that's not conforming to the office "culture."

You could be unvaccinated and living in a world of vaccine mandates

I checked 10/10 boxes for the attributes you listed. Not everyone in Fakefriendcouver will admit it but I think many other peeps are in the same boat.

Group activities are pretty much out for the time being, and besides that, you're right, the whole volunteer/meetup brand of advice is getting pretty tired.

These "it's up to you to turn that frown upside down and get out there and meet people" recommendations don't address the fact that society is fucked up and people are mentally burnt out and traumatized by their past toxic friendships, horrific situationships, Instagram lobotomies, and what have you.

It's a valid choice to just be solo and work you for 2022. You're in good company in your hermitage. A cloisterfuck, if you will.

I’ve been in similar situations so I can totally relate. When I had problems at work, the Union pestered me to take advantage of The Family Employee Assistance program just because their counsellors were “free.” What a waste of time. They pretty much fed me nothing but psycho babble bullshit. So I just stopped listening to the Union and just took matters into my own hands. I’m not going to run to them if I ever have any problems. Better to practice proactive problem solving on your own. Don’t let anyone brainwash you into doing something that doesn’t work for you. You know yourself better than anyone. Take care of yourself.

Worldwide. None of us like it but its what we must face. Is it more than an aphorism that diamonds are formed under heat and pressure and that precious metals go through a fire to be extracted from rocks. Don't give down. Walk Good Sisters and Brothers.

I could have written this so many times. When a colleague went on about Flakecouver I reminded him that most here, like him, are from somewhere else - AB, ON seem to be the biggest draws. I was born and raised here(there are a few of us around) and hate what my city has become. I have made efforts at friendship to many people, made the effort to call and invite them to do things. Was it ever reciprocated? Nope. When I brought it up they got defensive of course...one said he doesn't like to 'make plans' and prefers invitations last minute...in other words, 'I won't say yest to doing something next Saturday...I'm going to wait and see if something better comes along'. Someone asked, does it matter who phones? Yes - I need to know the other person is interested in keeping the friendship going. ALL relationships take work - whether romantic or friends. Almost ready to move back to the east coast where I lived for five years.

I applaud your post, your writing, and your insight and push back to the stupid advice people give. Cloisterfuck *slow clap*

@OP I am sorry that you are feeling down and lonely. Even though my situation is not the same, I also have days where I feel like that. I find being in nature, listening to music (hello 90s rock), reading books or poetry (my faves are somehow like friends), can help me. I also sometimes just go for long walks and aimless bikerides. Sharing a smile with a stranger or chatting with a store clerk may be all the social interaction I get some days apart from my family, and there's nothing wrong with that. Be gentle on yourself, lots of people are struggling, you aren't alone.

"You could be..." human "and living in a world..." I think is much more appropriate. But too many being absorbed into the enraged Tonys of the world to get it :)

I can't think of anything more clueless and mean-spirited than writing insults on a thread about mental illness.
