Cataracts

Down to reading with a magnifying glass. Having to wait 5 more months for public treatment sucks when you have no extra cash for private treatment.

Is that because of the Covid back-up?

When I had my cataracts done before Covid I only had to wait a couple of weeks.

I was told a year and a half wait 6 months ago and I suspect it was due to Covid. So at least it’s down to a year. Unless you have the $3500 for each eye for private.

Privati$ed medicine will make our society worse!

Lets get our priorities straight. Raise the tax on the $uper rich to fund what's needful and lets fine-tune health care. We need more nurse practitioners. Nurses are already the back-bone of health care and much of what the so called 'elite' doctor$ do can be done better and safer by nurses.

It reminds me of that old confession

Don't say suck

It reeks of plebian and common-as-dirtism. If you put this or that down I will tell you just what you might do: close your eyes and together we'll ❤ dream a little dream...

Don’t say suck…I’m curious what would be a more nuanced word be then? Saying as a plebeian.

It's because of COVID-19. It's amazing how the entitled turn on a decently working system because someone doesn't get a house call from a doctor.

It will...

... only get worse. UBC Med graduates fewer doctors per capita than it did at various other points in its history. A friend w/ a doc in the family says the real bottleneck is residencies in hospitals to train the doctors, or that is one of them.

The issue is not requiring more taxation, the issue is that a monopoly is only justified if it serves all comers conveniently.

The idea that someone has to "wait in line" instead of building his own hospital, buying his own x-ray machine, etc.

Are we Game or something? I can see a farmer denying his animals the right to found a hospital, but caring for one another is a natural right---I guess some ppl dont live in nature, they live in politiques.

I had cataract surgery 10 years ago and there were long wait times then too.

Private Health Care Proponent

Public "health" care doesn't work for most people - including health care workers devalued and discarded by their own system - never has. It's unavoidable to see now even for those who choose to live in cognitive dissonance and turn a blind eye to problems that don't affect them.

They complain about being underfunded, overburdened, lack of resources...You know what, I want to see all publicly funded systems opened up, those who want to pay into them can, anyone who isn't being served by them can opt out. Give people more choices. Let's all see who's really the drain on the health system. It's time for the harms and taxes government and people project and advocate on others be put into action. Beyond instant self-gratification and self-serving power principles, most people don't have the foresight to see exactly what it is they're pushing. It's a big joke to them and easily justified to scapegoat others for their problems. When it starts affecting their own lives is when they'll learn the lesson unfortunately.
