Stopping at crosswalks
posted January 13th, 2022 at 3:11 PM
So when did it become de rigueur to not stop at crosswalks? Now people just slow down a bit, and then swerve around you before you've even had a chance to finish crossing the crosswalk. Sometimes people don't even slow down. It's bloody dangerous and has to stop! I'm going to start filming cars and taking down license plates if this doesn't stop.

in Vancouver are too important and cool to stop. They are on their way to drink craft beer or overpriced sour coffee.

Driving or walking, I can’t stand it when I this this type of fuckery. Don’t risk peoples’ safety or lives to maybe cut three seconds off of your precious drive to wherever.
Note to pedestrians as well though, assume every driver is actively trying to murder you. Please stay off your little phones and be safe. It may be illegal to hit you with a car while you’re crossing, but it’s not the laws of BC you should be concerned with- it’s the laws of physics. Especially those relating to mass and velocity.

give their cars a good kick, then watch the drivers freak out. (Don't do this if car is moving fast!)

... Eye contact. Assert dominance. Make a "peace sign" with your fingers and wave them in front of you, in their face. Maintain eye contact while you do this.
You have the right of way.

I always stop for people walking in the crosswalk. I'm a pedestrian too half of the time (or maybe more ;).
Welcome to all you new residents from WhErEvEr! Yeah, even you bitter ones who liked to lump us all together. LoVe meeting new people and hope to stay friends, or at least in touch through phone/mail, with as many as possible. But obv we can only truly stay connected with a small amount. Most people will only be in our lives for a short while. Enjoy the company while they are there!
I'm a hippy-nerd and the science/logic side is totally with Isaac Newton in regards to physics that isn't in your favor.
Stay safe, not insensed.

who do this should have to re-apply for or lose their licence. It is uncalled for, especially now. There always seems to be that 5% of people that do harm because they can. They make it harder to stay focused on all the good and considerate people.

And when did it become normal for people to think that they don't have to stop at the sign if they had to previously stop behind a car in front of them? It's not one stop per intersection!
But seriously, I think the problem stems from the stupid pedestrian controlled intersections where one direction has stop signs and the other has lights. People have become conditioned to treat the stop sign as a yield when they've got the light.

Yeah, so many Vancouverites are delusional, they think they're movers and shakers in Manhattan, but Van is just a third tier city, that's largely irrelevant outside of Canada.

People used to stop at crosswalks in the 90s. People from Toronto would always comment, how different from Toronto it was. The people here have become total self-absorbed pricks.

….yup, 3rd tier city so is so dismal that nobody comes here any more. You can’t even give away a piece of property, no. Just a few of us and some sad seagulls.
