Thanks

I saw my hairstylist recently. When I sat in her chair, she said “I guess nothing’s new with you.” Which I assume she thinks my life is a complete bore. I think I’m going to break up with her because I don’t want to see her and have her judge everything I say.

I wasn't there and you be the final judge

but maybe she just meant that nothing's really new with anyone because the pandemic rolls on and a lot of activities are out of reach? Idk.

My RMT saw me after a year of covid & weight gain & asked if I was doing any exercise and if so, what. Haven't been back since....

You mean this as a joke, right?

You said nothing to her, nothing that she could judge you by, you just sat down. She said something to you, and you're judging her over what she could have meant by it.

Lots of hairdressers in town and stupid things fall out of people's mouths all the time.
Who cares ?
Is there anything new in your life ?
Because her comment seem to cut ya to the core.
Maybe you need a man. Bahaha. Sure. Lol
A man. Bahaha still laughing :)

Still good

No news is good news. If you were good in her eyes before and “nothing has changed”… just means you aren’t a moldy trash-heap of a human being?
Maybe she’s been traumatized by the sight of some of her other clientele?

Oh phew! Here I was worried the OP was “bad” — or a traumatic trash heap.

I had a hairstylist like that.

She thought she had me all figured out, despite knowing little to nothing about me or my life. Her judgements were based not on my personality, but solely on my physical appearance. She thought I was athletic (sometimes), lesbian (nope but proud to be an LGBTQ+ ally) book-smart (that's a bad thing?) If for any reason you feel uncomfortable, you need to trust that feeling & part ways. There are a PLETHORA of very talented, skilled hairstylists out there. True professionals are generally very warm people and want you to feel comfortable, not judged. Give them a shot!

I am sorry that you felt this person insulted you. I have been in situations when people have been insensitive to me. But really all you have to do is stand up for yourself. To be honest she was probably just telling a stupid joke. I would have said this: "Actually I have a lot going on" and then begin to list all the things I have been doing. It's not hard to stand up for yourself and be civil about it. It's quite easy. Don't be jerk about it just state honestly and clearly what you mean to say. A lot of communication is misunderstood. A lot of it. So be clear and nice at all times.
