George Costanza Mask Moment

As I was leaving my underground parkade and walking toward the building entrance, a women approached at the same time. She was carrying a whole bunch of snowboarding gear. She was mask-less, while I was wearing one (as I do EVERYWHERE). I held the door open for her for several minutes while she struggled to get all her gear in and she thanked me profusely as her face basically grazed my own. In hindsight, I wish I'd just stood back and said, "You go ahead" and let her deal with the gear all alone. After all, that's what you're doing to immunocompromised, at-risk, marginalized folks when you don't wear a mask.

It’s totally fair to let her deal with her stuff herself for the sake of being careful for your health. Some people are all fine with being maskless and living their lives like Covid has gone away, and there those of us who know it very much hasn’t. I just had a relative pass away a few months ago and had a long drawn out death. They struggled for months in hospital after getting Covid and their organs started to shut down. I’ve been sick with Covid a couple times now, the second time after being extremely careful. My body is in ruins and I’m still having many problems close to 2 years later. I’m early 40s but was always carded before that. Not so much anymore. I personally know a handful of others like myself so I’m confused how others don’t. Or is it they just don’t care?… For some people it may be a bigger safety issue and it’s been extremely eye opening and disappointing how very selfish people can be. I know nurses who will say it definitely hasn’t gone away, and who are outraged with how things are being handled. Seems the government caved as they don’t want the economy to shut down and it’s to hell with those of us that will die or have very serious long lasting health issues. It’s also become political and they want to be re-elected and dropped the masks to try and garner more votes. It’s really a slap in the face to those of us that have lost people, lost our health, for healthcare workers who are on the frontlines, plus people who have to work in the public with no choice financially and may have weaker immunes. I have also come across people that were very selfish to start and a big bout of Covid and a scare with their health changed their tune! It’s all not over yet. I hope the best for all of us. Good luck to you…. I’m so tired of Covid. Here is to hoping for better medicine and treatments for long Covid on the horizons.

I think you are correct. I believe numbers of covid cases have been under reported, is only getting worse as far as accurate information is concerned. I've posted on this forum before about another worker I met who was down with it bad for 2 weeks recently and has had both shots and booster. I am continuing to wear my mask and shake my head at these idiots (because that's what they are) that think the virus is now endemic. It isn't. The pandemic is still here but in more virulent form. It's funny to me how folks didn't trust the government before on the mask mandates are all of a sudden trusting them now on the new attitude we don't need to mask up. Dumb. Dumb. AND Dumber.

Wow so you knew she was not immunocomprised, at risk and marginalized from your brief encounter? Some of you are beyond arrogant and ignorant, perceiving the world and people through your narrow lens.

I’m, I don’t see the OP making any statements about speculations on her being anything but fearing for his health due to the state of things and being near to her maskless in public. He wasn’t sure he should do that anymore. Would say it’s a valid reason. OP wasn’t even criticizing her not wearing a mask!… But go ahead and spout on with nothing that has to do with anything.

If he feared for his health, he would not have opened the door. It's clear he was not at all in fear of his health *for several minutes* while close to his face. This is nothing more than a shaming judgmental post as most of you are here to do and have done at the expense of others for your entertainment.

Also I would add, saying you are immunocompromised, at-risk, and marginalized hardly sounds arrogant and ignorant but trying to get across to some people that people continuing to wear a mask to try and protect their health isn’t for fun or to make some sort of holier than thou statement. It all has been some kind of hell for some people. People who don’t wear masks should respectfully give people who wear masks room, including those that are maskless that are immunocompromised. It has become every man for himself and sadly it is our at risk people who are left behind. This is definitely not a disease for the poor and a lot of people seem to how to have compassion or think outside their “narrow way of thinking”.
