Probably they have a lot of interested responses and they can pick and choose. Like dating. Like applying for a job.

We as landlords can pick and choose from the 2 to 3 hundred emails we get sifting out the prospective problem renters we know will cost us headaches in the future.
So I apologize for not getting back to you.
Might be one of the emails I already deleted.

Have three things to suggest: 1) storage locker .... 2) couch or car surfing .... 3) prayer or whatever anthropomorphic words us immature humans approximate for our interaction with the Universal sentience.

I just posted a listing and literally had 50 responses in an afternoon; many of which were "is this still available", or "when can i see it?" when I clearly asked for an introduction about the prospective renter(s) so I could gauge initial fit (ie: can you pay your rent and not destroy my place?) before wasting anyone's time.

So, most, unfortunately, received no reply.

Because renters are second class citizens, and the owner is the LORD of the LAND.

Indigenous peoples had zero homelessness. Everyone shared. And those who say the 'savages' lived short brutal lives before the so-called wonders of modern big pharma medicine and packaged junk foods, are themselves living in delusions of cultural amnesia. Many Indigenous before colonization lived over a hundred of years of age.

Just as the other landlord above had posted, I take the time to list my rental units in great detail. With tons of photos and links to view video walkthroughs. I also ask some very specific questions that should be answered with an initial reply such as number of people looking to rent, current employment situation, pets etc. And unbelievably, the number of emails I get with "when can I view it" boggle the mind. If someone replying to my ad cannot even take the time to read through it and Supply me with the most basic up front information, it gets immediately deleted.

I'm doing my due diligence in advance in order to try and expediate this process for both parties involved. If a posting is asking you for a detailed reply, give a detailed reply and don't just ask if it's still available or when it can be viewed.

And lastly, if you have an appointment to view a place, and can't make it, have the decency to at least cancel as opposed to just not showing up. It's a two-way street people if you want us to respect you, you also have to respect us.

When’s the point we actually demand our government does something to improve the dire housing crisis?

It’s much like applying for a job online. Unless you’re shortlisted you’re not going to hear back from them. Your email is like a resume or cover letter. If you’re getting no response there are a few reasons why;
1. You are one of many people who responded to the ad, and someone else got there first.
2. You didn’t read the ad and didn’t provide the info they asked for.
3. Something about what you said or how you said it in your email made them decide that you’re not the right fit. Maybe they don’t want kids and you have some, maybe you’re a couple and they want one person. Maybe you’re a guy and they’re nervous about having a guy living in their house because they’ve got young kids or something.

Although it’s illegal to discriminate in housing or jobs, it happens all the time because they’re not going to tell you outright that they don’t want kids or men or whatever, they just won’t respond at all.

Make sure that you’re presenting yourself in the best possible way. Proofread your message and tell them about yourself so that they can imagine someone like you living in the place. Keep in mind that the majority of landlords around here are just homeowners who’re not professional property managers. Often they are clueless about tenants’ rights or their own obligations. They’re renting out part of the house they live in and they’re very specific about who they want to live in close proximity to. It’s unfortunate that many people are vying for every rental and that means that lots of people are being silently discriminated against, but it’s just a fact of life in this part of the world.

Let me say this about landlords.
Renters are now paying your damn mortgages for you in your illegal self made ridiculous apartments.
