My body, my life

I have no interest in going to the gym anymore. I don't why...I just don't feel motivated enough to bounce around on a machine. My mom and sister workout and they've told me that I need to lose weight. I told them to just worry about their own health and keep their noses out of my business. I'm tired of being criticized and oppressed by my own family. I only do what works for me. Nobody else. I'm not a fat man. I walk kilometers everywhere, so that's good enough of a workout for me. They say exercise can cure depression, but honestly I'd sweat buckets after hour and still didn't feel happy.

Family members like that too.
Haven't talked to them for years and not bothered that I'm not in their circle of people good enough to hang with.

When you're younger, working out is invigorating, after you turn 40 the aches and pain creeps in, and you have to completely change the way you work out. It becomes this joyless experience, you do for the heath benefits only. Growing older sucks.

Yes exercise can elevate mood

but also consuming magic mushrooms (microdosing or more) can cure ongoing depression. If you do an online search for magic mushrooms and depression, you'll learn about it.

Gyms are like penis enlargers - as soon as you stop putting in the effort of endlessly repeating the exercises you immediately start to lose your benefits.

Its great at first because you get results but once you stop in no time at all you start to regress, which blows.

Walking is far better exercise. For one thing, you are actually going somewhere, instead of sitting in a sweaty room with narcissists.

If you know you're depressed, you probably know that it is biochemistry fucking with your mood, as much as life's actual bullshit. You can hack the body with endorphins and movement in general. Walking is great! But if you need motivation to bounce around on a machine, remind yourself that it physical self-care, not different than showering or brushing your teeth. You don't do that because it is fun. You do that because you don't want to rot for no reason.

Depression doesn’t give a shit about working out.

It’s your decision

Lots of people think they have the right to tell others what they should do in their life. They offer opinions without being invited to do so. Often these same people get very offended if someone does the same thing to them, because they’re incapable (or unwilling) to recognize their own behaviour and / or hypocrisy. Regardless of what you’re doing or not doing in your life, unless you’re hurting someone else, planning to deliberately hurt yourself, or what you’re doing is illegal, they should butt out and mind their own business. Particularly when it comes to someone’s weight. Overweight people know they’re overweight. They sure don’t need someone else to point it out to them. In your case you’ve made it clear that you know the reality of your situation, and you’re choosing not to do something that doesn’t seem to work for you. I wish you luck in finding some healthy way to cope with your depression, and I think you’re entirely within your rights to tell the busybodies where to go.

Gyms are boring. Working out for its own sake is boring, whereas when you walk you're focused on your surroundings, maybe smiling & talking to people. There are so many ways to enliven the body - dancing, doing manual labour of many kinds (ie. gardening, landscaping), singing in choirs, hiking in beautiful settings. It's about boosting the spirit as well as the body. Good for you for recognizing what you need. Build on that & you'll be way ahead of everybody.

Growing older is a priviledge that many are not lucky enough to experience. And some of us are aware of how lucky we are and make the most of the time we have.
