Flaky

This week was my birthday, turned 70. I was looking forward to reading some texts or emails from old friends or current friends as I always make a point of wishing them happy birthday and have the dates marked on the calendar. Well, you guessed it - not one single message! Feeling pretty alone.

A BDay Song for you !
" They say it's your birthday da na na na na
hey it's my birthday too da na na na na "
I hear ya no one seems to remember but I find birthdays are way over rated anyways.
Treat yourself to something nice because you deserve it.
Happy Birthday
Da na na na na.
Lol :)

Could be a few things

Could be your friends don't view birthdays as very important despite you making a point of remembering theirs. Or maybe they figured you wouldn't want to be reminded of how old you are. Or both. Or something else altogether. I would try to put it in perspective. Are they there for you the rest of the year? Do they make a point of staying in touch with you and spending time with you? If yes, good. If not, maybe it's time for new friends.

Did you do anything special for yourself on your birthday?

After 65

You tend to start forgetting things - this may excuse only some of your friends in the same age group. That said, some of your friends may not be as close to you as you thought or may not be your friends at all, rather just some stupid, selfish shits. Sorry to say it, but you may just need better friends.

Being in the same boat I usually plan a treat for myself with some close buddies. Also, after my wife passed, I got two cats.

Make it an event

I've come to realize that if I want to be celebrated on my birthday, I have to organize a dinner or some sort of get together. Otherwise, unless you're on facebook, people will generally not notice. Pick an inexpensive restaurant that's central and invite people to join you for your birthday :-)

HAPPY BIRTHDAY

Yes, it is sad and very disappointing. I don't understand people these days....friends don't seem to mean much anymore. Be your own friend and celebrate yourself. It is YOUR day! Best wishes for a terrific year ahead.

Happy birthday!

Unfortunately most people really don’t take care to remember others’ birthdays, and I agree, that’s lame! If you want people to remember in the future though, do what I did this year i.e. sighing and saying “I can’t believe I’m turning _ next _” the week before. I was, in fact, freaking out before a milestone birthday but I ended up jogging some people’s memories by bringing it up as well.

I hope you had a nice birthday anyway and wishing you a beautiful new decade ahead!

Birthdays these days are like phone numbers; no one bothers to commit them to memory. I see you, Flaky. Check back here next year; I won't forget.

Not so fast

Have you truthfully always remembered and acknowledged everyone’s birthday? I used to be that person. But after many times when those same people didn’t acknowledge mine, I stopped. Realistically it’s never been a big deal for me because I was taught from birth that I wasn’t that special. I’m not really recommending that as a philosophy, but at the same time, the people I know who make a big deal about their birthday seem to be more than a little obsessed with themselves in other ways too. The reality is that once you’re an adult, consider yourself lucky if anyone remembers your birthday.

Happy Birthday!

It seems like since the disappearance of paper address books & paper agendas, people have become generally awful at remembering phone numbers and birthdays. There's something tactile about paper that helps the brain remember in a way that tablets and phones just can't. But it doesn't take away from the fact that your friendship and your birthday are important, and acknowledging the importance of your friendship by acknowledging your birthday is important. I echo what a commenter stated above: it's a new year with fresh possibilities and for opening yourself up to the possibility of brand new friendships. Happy Birthday.
