I love watching 90's movies...

No body is holding a cellphone in their hands. From then to now is so culture shocking to me.

Yeah, in a nostalgia binge I was replaying a 1993 adventure PC game the other night, Gabriel Knight. It feels VERY far away now. Phone books, home phones, notebooks and developed photographs, BOOKS.

Wall phones

Fastened to the wall with a 50' cord so you wouldn't have to sit right at the phone (ala The 70's Show). Balancing that on your shoulder while cooking, yelling at the kids to get off the other line and dealing with party lines. For those of you that aren't familiar, no, party lines weren't phone parties - they were phone lines you shared with other people outside your house and property because the cost and technology of the time didn't allow for individual private phone lines. Notorious for people listening in on your calls and you having to wait and wait and wait for people to get off the lines so you could call somebody or receive a call yourself. Funny thing is that now with cell phones and people talking on them on transit, etc., you can still listen in on their calls.

80s (and back) are when you really won't see cels... except for the very rare one where a guy might be holding one of the brick-sized early models.

Yes to your comment, especially re: photos, but people still read print books. Library stats are high and holding. Book publishers are doing OK. Kids in particular still love a copy in hand. Also, in many locations cell phones don't work, and businesses still use land lines. What I miss most about the nineties was great music, a higher degree of public civility and the remains of hope for a future.

... Taxi Driver last night. No cellphones, porno theaters everywhere, no prudishness, I mean, I did not know what the plot was, I had heard the "you talking to me?" bit like everyone has, but, wow, what a movie.

I know every generation under current conditions of "progress" experiences something like nostalgia, but, wow, I am really glad I grew up before cellphones and the Internet being everywhere---I remember when only secretaries had computers on their desks!

The only reason 'only secretaries had computers on their desks' is because their dumbass overpaid bosses didn't know how to use them. Only when the corporations decided to nix all the personal secretary jobs thinking word processing was easy for the boss to do and why pay an already underpaid underling to cost cut? was it then discovered the big boys (mostly male) didn't have a CLUE because they themselves delegated everything to the mostly female admin pool. Was THAT an eye opener and actually rather amusing to witness.

It is different dictating a letter from typing it, especially if you have not typed for much of your life.

Jodie Foster

Was the weak link in that movie. And another thing- that banana head who popped Reagan had it all wrong. If he'd been following the plot he would have got obsessed over Cybil Shepherd. She was the character Travis was trying to impress. Sweet Betsy

Lazy writing

Now it's just a plot device to get the character moving on towards the next conflict.

I hate the shows where they actually expect you to be able to read the tiny text on the screen.
