If you can’t party are you even real

I am in a parallel dimension, and it feels like I don’t exist to people I once considered friends. A collective forgetting about the pandemic and no masks means being in most spaces isn’t safe for me. Apparently discussing immunocompromised people is banned in BC press. It’s really alienating and isolating seeing endless photos of partying in maskless crowds, people doing things in busy inside spots (with their young unvaccinated kids) with no masks . . . People I thought were smart? And supposedly didn’t want this thing to go on forever? It’s a confusing and lonely time.

What did you do before 2020? Assuming you lived a full and vibrant social life.

It's over...

Your health isn't more important than mine. Since my teens, when mom and brother got diabetes, I kept my blood sugars in check w exercise at the ymca. I went 2-6 months a year, especially in winter. The COVID shutdown ruined that. My blood sugars rose substantially. The province never considered this tho. Even if they did, tho, I'm not a variable for some beancounter.

We saw who people really are during the pandemic, didn't we? It really pulled the vail back. My sister having a tantrum and complaining that she had to stand in line because shops would only allow so many people in, or that tirade with those two guys at Pizza Pizza in Kits yelling "I'm worth 5 millions dollars" and phone video showing theme making racist and otherwise offensive comments towards staff, or Cordoroy in Kits, wow, that was something.

There are so many more examples of people who couldn't handle a shutdown that was essentially subsidized by the government. I mean, you got to stay home, read books, watch film/TV/documentaries, exercise, make art, work on a project, cook, it was a staycation, IMO, if you were lucky enough not to have anyone sick in your life, and I'm sorry if you lost someone but for me personally, a staycation.

You sound like you trust the authorities.

No wonder you're in a pickle.

Your authorities only care about their own power, not you.

I'm not immunocompromised but I'm 59 so have been very careful due to my age (triple-vaxxed). I still mask even if nobody else does, and to my surprise, I see that it's often younger people who are masked (perhaps they're immunocompromised?). Anyway - I'm still continuing to be careful, both to keep myself safe, and out of respect for others who are (or live with ) people who are immunocompromised or elderly. Maybe I'm being naive, I dunno. I'd like life to go back to what it was pre-pandemic, but maybe it never fully will. And I'm not going to feel ashamed for still masking up - don't like it, but will continue for the time being. Too many people are still coming down with Covid. Stay safe, OP! :)

*You* got to stay home and had a paid vacation. Some of us had to work and weren't subsidized. Your entire reply was about your privilege and all expense paid vacation. That's not what the author is writing about. They're raising awareness about the way they've personally been affected as an immunocomprised person.

It ain't over for me

The first Vax gave me a strong immune reaction which affected my joints for about 10 months. I was referred to a young immunologist who after several tests told me that healthy eating, exercise and sunshine are a better prescription than any pills he can give me. During the time of the vaccine passport - I felt isolated because I was unable to get a second Vax and medical exemptions were only available for government workers. My doctors have told me that I have underlying health issues which caused my Vax reaction and put me at risk for an adverse reaction to Covid. I am going to avoid the busy inside spots which worries the OP. I have found places and people I can enjoy at a social distance behind my mask.

I reacted to all 3 pfizers but toughed it out. Be wary people, prob is protection still not enough with the variants, wearing my mask and am also compromised. The virus is running rampant and damned be the stories that say it's just like cold symptoms. Maybe for some but not all. Covid is a killer and people still in ICU and dying. Stay safe!

Is 59 the new 79?
