Trapped inside myself

I regret being an impossible introvert - but I have no one to confess this aloud to. While I hold social media accounts, I do not attend to them often - every few years at best. Sadly, this was the way I learned of one of my dearest friends passing, and several months after it happened. It breaks my heart to not have spent more time with them, or to have told them how much their friendship meant to me and how I loved them. I felt ashamed, and an unworthy friend! I mourned the loss deeply because true friends are rare - we are blessed and lucky to ever find and keep one. By this anonymous confession I hope that someone reads this - perhaps some other introvert like me - and remembers that we should not take our friendships for granted. The smallest things hold greater meaning with time. How many tomorrow's shall come before it's too late?

I tend to introversion as well, although not as much as what you’ve described. So I do understand. But ultimately we can’t call ourselves a friend unless we’re willing to invest actual time in that person. Like any other important relationship, we must nurture it to prevent it from dying. It’s too late for that friendship now, but what about the others in your life? I’m not just speaking to you either, but to everyone else who has been guilty of taking the people that matter to us for granted. If you care about someone, make sure that you tell them while you can. Don’t just assume that they know! SAY THE WORDS. It will mean so much to them, and you never know when it might be too late.

Life lesson

We spend so much time thinking about what people will think that we shortchange ourselves, failing to tell people we like that we like them. We wait until it's too late.
Now the OP lives in regret. Will they change or forget until the next friend is gone?
Will you?

How Sad is That

I've found myself sometimes wishing my missed connection thought I was dying. Then they'd miss me! Then they'd contact me after all this time...

You are making a misconception. Both an extrovert and introvert, can lack awareness. I am an introvert, yet I value awaress and carimg about others. Don't put the word introvert as some negative spin on your short-comings.

OP said *S/He* is an impossible introvert, not "all introverts are impossible".
Don't assume.

Way to completely miss the point of the message and seize upon an opportunity to spout your superior righteousness! Sure, no one needs to argue there are varying forms and degrees of Introversion. The message has NOTHING to do with perceived "shortcomings" as you so unkindly put. But this confession is not about finding a place to lay blame. It is directed only to those who could use the message.
The confessor suffers a regret and hopes to *remind* those who need it the importance of reaching out - *especially* if it's been a while.
Hey if you're in touch with everyone you care about and are able to keep up regular healthy communication with them - how awesome for you. You don't need this message -- and this message doesn't need your criticism.
