What a mess

I cancelled the last of my streaming sites today. Maybe it is because the last 2 springs(march- may) got cancelled, but I have spent 6-8 hours daily outside this spring. I no longer have a smart phone, just a flip phone for dialing. I have an email account, although not many emails come these days. My online shopping has been at zero purchases for 2022, unlike the last decade of it being my go to. Outside of local news, a GS confession, and a few other basic web searches I have digitally detoxed. 5 months into 2022 and my New Years resolution, one I though unobtainable, has been obtained.

You're my new hero. I am addicted to YouTube shorts, my attention span is fucked, and I need a digital detox so bad. Your 6 to 8 hours per day outdoors lifestyle is inspiring.

Inspiring! I am off work due to injury and spending lots of time outdoors too! (Yes, people with chronic pain still do things)

Curious if you miss anything?

so wise

we should all do this. I've definitely stopped "adding value" to so called "free" social media sites and unsubscribed from endlessly bleak programming that makes you lose your faith in humanity.

as I type a comment into this internet forum. Oh well, I'm bored and lonely in these covid climate crisis cuckoo times. Buckle up for a wild ride Planet Earth but somehow I'm confident everything good in the big picture :-)

The next step in your recovery is to start listening to AM radio. After sunset on any given night, there is a signal skip that causes all the AM radio stations to be heard across the continent. You get different perspectives from different cities, but the song remains the same, except, that you don't have to pay for it. And also you're not that distracted away from the sunset or your chess game. AM radio.... it's the new cutting edge, avant-garde, vanguard, and lit. Tune in or tune out. The choice is yours....you don't need to be left behind if you don't want to.

6-8 hours outside daily, I envy you!

Thanks for your write up. I’m glad you’ve transcended to better ways of living.

I’m doing a bare minimum of social media now. I feel good about that. In a complete reversal, I’m now selling all the crap I bought during the pandemic. What was I thinking? I’m reading more books and thus decreasing my screen time even more. I’m outside everyday but surrounded by concrete. Your 6-8 hours a day outside is going to be attempted now. New challenge!

@ 6-8 hours

op. it didn't start at 6-8 hours, it started with 30 minute walks turning to 45 minute walks or rides. it started from I don't want to be rain soaked to I'd rather be rain soaked than inside my 4 walls. 2 hour rides or walks turned into "can I make it to that far off destination?" eventually the muscle memory keeps me from coming home from work and sitting down. baby steps. it's 5+ months of baby steps upon baby steps turning into giant leaps and sprints and such.
