Where are my peeps

The pandemic really made me realize how most of the people I am surrounded with (family, friends and acquaintances) have very different views from my own. I don’t need the people in my life to subscribe to the same beliefs as my own. But it feels very unsettling and isolating when I notice myself being inauthentic to get along, or, when I get punished for even slightly sharing my views. Perhaps I’m mistaken, but I do believe that the things I believe in are based on reason. I am a highly empathic person but do not subscribe to many aspects of the woke political atmosphere of the day. I do my best to listen to others, and I don’t think of my positions as being the “right ones”. I share this because I realize that I can’t be the only one who feels this way…but I just can’t seem to find my peeps!

How cryptic can you get?

So you’re saying something without saying anything. Are you a conspiracy theorist? Believe that Covid is hoax? Or is it that you don’t believe in being politically correct about the issues d’jour? I mean, some of the absolute garbage that supposedly intelligent people have bought into is truly shocking and very scary. So sorry but if you’re one of those nut jobs who believe that the earth is flat and every person in politics is conspiring to track you by injecting nanobots into your bloodstream in the guise of a vaccination, then I don’t have any sympathy for you. I don’t care how “politely” you express your views, I’m not even remotely interested in hearing them. But if you’re one of the rarest people who dare to suggest that some of the popular ideologies of the day are complete nonsense, then I’m one of your peeps and you can talk to me.

detox digitally for a while. some people will down vote this comment and scream privilege or some weird online stuff, but what you can control are your actions day to day. log off. tune out. see if that helps. it has in my life.

your "peeps" huh?

One way to tell you're dealing with a whiny bigot is that they blurt out the word "woke" in a disparaging way. You don't have the guts to be specific about what issues you disagree with (anti-racism, reproductive rights, LGBT rights ) because that would out you as a bigot and an asshole, so you use woke as a hazy umbrella term to refer to those things instead. Your peeps aren't hard to find. You can find them on 4chan, Qanon and other right wing websites. There's also Joe Rogan, Ben Shapiro, Fox News, and on and on.

How Cryptic Can You Get...you took the words right out of my mouth. I could not have said it better. Far, far too much craziness going on and how in the world did so many get led astray by pure nonsense??
People who consider themselves to be self thinkers and intelligent. I will never understand.

It's fascinating where the mind goes, it shows the level of emotional immaturity out there and how committed to sowing those seeds some of you are. I mean you say you're not interested in it, but how do you hear about some of the stuff you ranted belligerently about unless you're actively seeking it out and engaging with it, it's definitely not mainstream, most of us would have never heard of it.

I assure you that you don’t have to be actively searching for it to learn about some of the bizarre nonsense some people believe nowadays. Just read a lot of news articles and you’ll hear about it. I talk to people who have actually met some of these types. Just because a person is informed doesn’t mean they are a part of it. That’s actually a very weird assumption.

I can relate.

There's a quote from Robin Williams that goes, "I used to think the worst thing in life was to end up all alone. It's not. The worst thing in life is to end up with people who make you feel all alone."

Re a few of the toxic replies: Wow at the self-invented projected sludge.
