Bad Time Traveler
posted June 25th, 2022 at 4:23 AM
I'm pretty sure I'm from some other time. I feel a tad discombobulated in this reality. I think I met a fellow time traveler but she's married now, so I should really just go back in time to try and woo her...but somehow I don't know how to do that.

Maybe you're just confronted with how overrated being an adult is? Working, shopping, collecting things, with just two weeks off a year. You probably thought it would be far more rewarding?
This brand of capitalism doesn't help matters much, Your feelings could also be a direct result of capitalism distilling the value of human life into how much money can be made from it. You could feel discombobulated because we're living in a system that's in direct conflict with the human spirit? Possibly you yearn for more balance and simplicity in our cultures, because whatever we're doing now isn't working for us, now is it?!
Notice I said this brand of capitalism. I'm not anti-capitalist, just anti-whatever this sh#t show is.
Ummm

Please tell me that you don't feel discombobulated because you would rather be picking cotton, drinking moonshine, dancing the Charleston or getting mustard gassed by the Germans. Please tell me it's more than being tired of TikTok, memes and Kate Bush running up that hill. If you hate climate emergencies and rollbacks of people's constitutional rights, then get out there and do something about it. Maybe you will meet a likeminded person to work shoulder-to-shoulder with. And maybe they will be unmarried.
Being Present

Feeling out of sinc. I can relate to that. I often feel like I have an arrhythmia between opportunity and reality. A fibrillation. What helps for me is finding things that help me take a beat to recenter myself and be present in the moment. A cup of tea, journalling, just sitting and breathing. A previous poster on GS mentioned Lao Tzu and I feel like it could be helpful here as well: “If you are depressed you are living in the past.
If you are anxious you are living in the future.
If you are at peace you are living in the present.” Perhaps those of us who oscillate between depression, peace, and anxiety are mostly time travelling.

That brand of capitalism had a good run, and created a lot of wealth, but it's not beneficial for humanity anymore. Capital's tendency to continuously expand into new markets, exploit new resources, new work forces, to generate ever greater profits. Due to the falling rate of profit, capitalists have to continuously expand their businesses in order to keep up with this tendency for their profit rates to drop. This causes negligence towards environmental protection, worker's rights, etc. This tendency to expand has also led to imperialism. Capitalism is an economic system driven by ever-increasing profits, forever and ever, until it completely destroys itself, either by destroying the planet and the people who live on it. Where have you been, out to lunch?!

If you mean you're from a different time because "damn kids and their PC nonsense" etc., the only sad thing is your refusal to leave bigotry in the past. The only people I have encountered who long to live in times past are straight white dudes.
