Escape

I used to think a lot about having my own little house in the woods. I still do from time to time, but lately that's been overtaken by the idea of creating a living space inside of a natural cave, something cozy but still airy. Living inside a tienkeng would be amazing too. I think it appeals to my subconscious desire to escape and be hidden.

Thanks for the intro to a new word OP.
I ended up reading about the biggest one in China.

Used to think about living in the woods too back in young days but had vision probs for decades then started looking after older parents and now, being middle aged, realize living out in the woods (away from civilization) is not a good idea as a senior.
The thought of an earthquake (& resulting cave-in) makes living in a cave less appealing.

The end is nigh.

Been thinking the same. Humanity is about due for another apocalypse anyway. Pole shift, zombies, alien invasion, asteroid impacts, rouge planets, bio engineered plagues, nuclear war, and killer AI robots. Thought about a cave but not sure I'd want to risk a potential cave-in. That being said wouldn't want to risk being on a burning surface either. Probably just best to dig myself a bunker. Deep but not too deep.

I've Always

Dreamed of living in an earth sheltered house for similar reasons. Also, the earth at 7 feet down stays the same temp all year round- so you wouldn't need air con in the summer and would only need to heat it 5 degrees in the winter. And facing south, would need little heat anyways

There is no escape from this horrible world.
Only when you close your eyes and dream can you ever feel free but alas you always wake to the cold harsh realities.
Your still here.

a little shack out in the Finnish wilderness sounds good to me. Lots of light and nice weather. Maybe not alone though.

Unless you have family there- why Finland?
BC is 3 times as big, a whole lot closer, if you are not from the EU you need permission from the Finnish Ministry of defense to even buy real estate there, Finland has 55% income tax, and a 24% VAT.
On top of that, rural properties are not any cheaper than here.

A little house in the woods would now cost you millions. You're better off in a cave.

Living in a hole

Jun 14, 2022 at 7:44am

I've seen pictures of homes in north Africa that are holes in the ground and they look quite comfortable. The hole is a courtyard and the rooms in the hose are caves cut into the side of the holes. After the Rio Climate Accords were signed in 1992 I was waiting to sign up to relocate to some eco-village but that was half a lifetime and numerous layoffs ago. I guess I'll just stay where I am and die like a honeybee.

Since all the rich are digging their holes in the ground.... maybe they know something about what's coming that the rest of us don't.
