I dont care about success

I come from a very high achieving family. Mom and dad were top of their fields. They worked their asses off and are now rich. Im super proud of them. My beautiful sister had a free pass to any school, scholarships out the ass. She is amazing. Me…. I have a simple job i like but dont love. I make enough to get by, not more. Im single and happy about it. My family is always pushing me to do more, aim higher and the like. Thing is… I dont care. Im fine with my life. Ive travelled the world, ive had amazing moments with awesome people. Ive done a lot in my life but it never seems to cut for my family. They always harp on about “just want you to be happy”. What they really mean is they want me to be happy on their terms. The last thing I will mention: my mom and dad and sis, while very smart and successful, are kind of boring and have no friends. And so… I love my family but i dont care what they think and I have no regrets about my life. I hope everyone out there whose family does not accept them, can find peace and love in your chosen family and community. Love you all.

Scientists find that attractive people tend to be conformist and boring. That goes the same with successful people. The business world or academia is conformist, there are protocols. Occasionally one breaks out, and becomes a "maverick" but largely they're damn a damn dull conformist people.

It’s YOUR life. Be proud of yourself. Live to your standards not other people’s

The only difference was my family used their house as a bank and never paid back the money they borrowed then got pissed off with me because I earned enough money to travel and stay out of debt which I still do to this day and they are bitter about how I live my life.
You have to live your life on your own terms not someone else's and if they can't accept thatDTMFA

You're probably getting a sweet inheritance, no need to worry about anything at all.

In my lifetime I have met several people who claim that they “don’t care about money/success”. What’s interesting is that they were all from very wealthy families. Coincidence? I think not.

Well I grew up poor, as in often not have enough money for basics and eating very cheap.
But I stumbled upon a way to make a lot of money, and did so.
But I drive a 20 year old car, have no real toys, and have a very modest apartment.
I know many people like myself.

What I’m saying is that the people I’ve met who claimed to not care about money either had lots of it, could get lots of it or will inherit lots of it. They are the only ones who made that statement out loud. I also know people like yourself whom I admire. You don’t say whether or not you care about success or money, just that you started out with nothing. Good on you. If what you meant is that you don’t care about money, is it because you now have lots of it? Doesn’t mean you need to be materialistic. Net net - it’s easy to not care as much about something you have in abundance. If being poor drove you to succeed and become wealthy, you must care about it somewhat. Ergo, you would never state that it doesn’t matter, because it does. Not a dig, just my observation.
