I want to delete it

But I haven’t been able to do it yet. I found a recording that has my ex’s voice on it. I hadn’t heard their voice at all since we broke up a long time ago, and suddenly there they were. It was a shock to hear it again and stirred up so many confusing emotions. I know I should delete it but I keep finding myself playing it over again just to hear their voice. I’ve been so strong for all this time and now I feel weak again. I’m so mad at myself!

You've already given a recording of him power over you. That's not healthy.
Basically you're inviting it to haunt you, which is the first requirement of any haunting.

that feeling of weakness means you still have inner work to do,cause your not at peace with something.
that self delusion of "been strong for all this time" indicates you didn't deal & heal - but more likely buried & blocked it out.

No biggie.

Worrying about t his is the problem, more than the activity of re-living the bad/good old days.

Part of you

People get so invested in wanting to throw parts of themselves away. If it is an ex, if it clearly has an emotional effect that isn't blind rage, then why let it go? Why the need to? Ex's are part of our life, they are part of who we are and what we become. Good and bad.
