"There is no where to run. No where to hide." Why? You sound like you're a young person, why not leave? My niece is in Montréal, and says it's like night and day, compared to the West Coast, people are that friendly, fun, and the rentals are cheaper. Besides, no one under 40 should live in Vancouver, it's bloody boring. It's unnatural for a young person to want to live some place this boring. Leave it to the old folks sitting on a pile of money.

"Vancouver, it's bloody boring"

You sound like one of those that never leaves the house but complains it's boring. Unlimited sports, biking, hiking, skiing, unlimited music shows, people watching, etc etc.

Montreal? Five straight months of temperatures under -10C, so you're stuck at home or going to pubs.
Summer is hot and humid, sweating like a hog and swatting black flies and mosquitos. So you're stuck in A/C places.

There are multitudes more Quebecois living in Vancouver than the other way around, for a reason...

I'm tired too. Tired of all the reindeer games and people you should be able to trust letting you down. Things never being what they appear to be. Why can't people just be honest ?
Scammers, liers, hackers, people in authority positions using their powers for evil, to what
end ?
Where does it really get you ?
You know you can't take it with you when you go.
Whatever happened to caring and loving people and doing the right thing ?
The whole world is upside down.
Maybe it always was and I just didn't see it til now.
Makes me sad !

Ya, I lived in Montreal for a year. There's a very good reason they have a 13 square kilometer Underground City....

I was just thinking this exact way. I feel like there’s nothing to look forward to anymore. I’m a senior, Vancouver born and raised. This city has been going downhill for years, but the planned changes just approved by council are truly the death knell. Everything that made it so special is being completely destroyed. Overpopulation ruins everything good. Our beautiful wild places are overrun with people. There’s nowhere to go to get some blissful peace and quiet, because the trails and beaches are packed. When you have to make a reservation to go to a beach you know it’s ruined. The climate is out of control, crime is ridiculously bad, people are being randomly attacked by drugged out and mentally ill homeless people, gang wars and gun violence is a daily occurrence, and the police are completely useless because our laws are so lax. Prices for housing and basic necessities are beyond the reach of a huge percentage of the population. I don’t see any way that it’s going to get anything but worse from here. I’m far too old to pack up and go somewhere else and my family is all here so it’s really not an option. But if it wasn’t for them, I’d be checking out completely.

Jesus, it's just a suggestion. You can go anywhere you want. Check out Bangkok Pat's YouTube channel. It's a very good resource for people moving to Bangkok, and he always has interesting insights into the culture, because he actually likes it there as opposed to those people who are there for a good time and not a long time. The rest of SE Asia if fascinating and fun, also.

I guess you've already forgotten about the nine months of rain. The median age of Vancouver was 39.7 years in 2011 and this city isn't getting any younger, so it's not going to get anymore more vibrant in the near future. Vancouver's always been low-key, even in the "wild 90's" Why do the locals call it blandcouver, or no fun city? The city does have a reputation.

Personally I would like to see the cities art and culture improve instead of hiking and biking etc... Cities should be cultural centers, and that's what's missing in Vancouver.
