Lights Camera Action

This new building I moved into has so many security cameras. They say it's for outside security, intruders but you can't get anywhere in building or the elevators or the stairs without a fob. So who would be able to access the front door or the upper floors of the building? There are cameras everywhere within the building and where does this video feed go ? I find it very unsettling and wonder are these security cameras here to watch for intruders or to keep an eye on the people that live here ? Big Brother Watching.

Cameras all over our building too. I’ve seen the manager run out to the garbage if someone is throwing something out that is too large. Commenting on things that they would only know if they were watching the feed. It’s just like my work, constantly on their computers watching us.

If you’re in a strata then you have a right to know how the information gathered from the cameras is being used, and well as who has access to the footage. There are privacy laws that must be adhered to, and those same laws apply to rental buildings too. There must be signage posted to notify people that the area is under surveillance. As far as who could get in, unfortunately relying only on fobs isn’t enough. Lots of people rent out units (even when they’re not supposed to) on Air BNB. They also let people who don’t have a fob or keys into the building. It happens all the time.

In China they've got cameras everywhere

with facial recognition and a rating system. They call it Social Credit and if you don't have adequate ratings you can't even get a bus pass. But hey, our BC Social Credit Party changed their name to the BC Liberals yet they have no connection to the Federal Liberals. Now they are talking about changing their name again. What does this have to do cameras in your building? Heck if I know but wouldn't it be good if their was an accurate and truthful way to score our politicians

Why I need to say this.... but you chose to move there. And for this reason, you have no right to complain about it.

Valid Question

You should ask about who has access to the camera feeds and recordings and what they're doing with the information. You are within your rights to ask this important question.

I work as a security guard in one of those building so, yeah, we're watching you for bylaw infractions on the security cameras. And we report them to the strata. Secure buildings are an illusion, they make it more difficult, but not impossible to break in. People are really bad at watching if someone follows them through the doors or parking gates. Once inside, you have access to the floors though fire exits. We found dudes camping out in the fire exits or using them as toilets. People break into cars, we had people get on the floors and steal fire extinguishers. Unless you're in a prison, and sometimes not even then. Nothing is 100% secure.

I work somewhere like this. On of the tenants busted in his neglighbors door and robbed him. Now we can prove it. I’ve seen a tenant attack his girlfriend with a hammer and drag her around by her hair and worse. When you need us to find that footage we will

I hope you never need us to find the footage

As for the locks. Don’t trust locks, layer your security with bright lights and cameras (and high quality locks, think assa abloy or schlage)

Sincerely, big brother

(Lol no I’m not watching y’all are boring asf)
